[Request] Change Commander name

Please make it possible to rename your commander without having to wipe your progress. Maybe limit it to once a month or once a year, but just make it possible. ;)

If they allow Cmdrs to change their name then I'm fine with that as long as there is some way of identifying who you were before for any previous indiscretion's you committed ;)
I've met too many cowards before who griefed me then disappeared into Solo or changed their Cmdr name so retribution was not possible

I'm all for being allowed to change your Cmdr name. But I think it should be limited to once or twice a year so folks aren't changing their names constantly for whatever reason.

Understand your point, you'r right on this.
Personnaly I just didn't saw the "Commander" thing automatically placed before the name. Now I've got my name + "commander" in front of it x) ..

Btw I'm too for the one or two change limit, seems to be the right way to get things correctly done ^^

I'm okay with name adjustment/correcting, but not change. Take out a word, add a word, add one or two letters, change one or two letters, or remove one or two letters. But no more.

Identity is important. It's the most tangible thing we have on the internet. To remove/heavily reduce its meaning would be a step in the wrong direction if you ask me.

+1 for limited numbers of name changes.

In an ideal world, we'd all read carefully what we've written before hitting confirm. In reality, one momentary mental glitch is all it takes to be saddled with a ridiculous error where a sensible name should be, as Commander Commander above - and any number of other Commanders - can certainly attest.

I see no good cause to limit changes to minor adjustments. If someone wants a fresh start, without clearing the entire save, let them have one. So long as it's not being exploited or abused, a new identity once or twice a year seems reasonable.

When does adjustment/correcting stop becoming that and turns into a name change...? :)

I personally don't see the issue with being able to change our given names - it could be limited to only being able to be 'registered' at certain station levels and only allowable once every ? (whatever that may be - perhaps a month).

I think our pilot registration is a little simple as it is and should be expanded to include a unique, non-changeable, pilots federation registration id which could be used to lookup and show any previous 'given' names.

Similarly, link this with ship registration details to record historic ownership, ship naming, last known docking clearance etc.

I've rather arbitrarily defined a limit in my post, based on approximately nothing.

We can't see CMDR faces. The name's really all we got. If I off half of open and get thrown onto KoS lists, that should have lasting consequences. I shouldn't be able to just hit the name change button and disappear.

[...] that should have lasting consequences.
To be perfectly honest, I don't think consequences matter one jot in ED. This is a game with no justice. Regardless of what I might prefer it to be, it's really just GTA in space. No one is ever punished in any meaningful way for doing anything evil by the game, not unless they get themselves killed in the process. From what I've read, even fully-fledged cheats only seem to be shadowbanned for a short time.

The only players that I'm sure are maintaining a KoS list is CODE - and judging purely from their own posts, they're unlikely to be terribly reliable about who should or should not be on that list. If they're the strongest example of judicial authority in the ED universe, I think we're all better off with anarchy.

If you (or anyone else) decides to become a random psycho killer and then vanish - whether it's by dropping permanently into Solo or changing your name - I seriously doubt anyone will even notice the difference.

If real consequence were to arrive - would it be worth more than being able to change your CMDR name? I don't see the two co-existing well (short of my suggestion).
