For the three months I've been playing the game, I've been working on Community Goals about every other week. I'm let down that they are all so similar. I expect one bounty hunt and one trading run, and the variations I've seen with mining or material gathering are pretty pithy.
I'd love to see a competitive CG, in which two factions--like Fed and Empire, or Li Yong Rui and Mahon--are racing to gather materials to claim a small set of systems, or something. It could be one CG on the mission menu, with two progress trackers, and only one side can complete the goal to get the benefit. It could be a way to force some change on the galactic map, expand to new systems, upset the stale powerplay balance, or anything.
The main advantage would be that a competitive CG would invite piracy, in addition to mining/trading and bounty hunting. It might give meaning to some of the PvP, and hopefully vary it up with piracy being a viable contribution to the goal.
If we even got 1 such competitive CG per month, it could go a long way toward spicing up the community goals.
