As we know, one of the fun yet tedious aspects of ranking is Navy ranks. either Fed or Imp, both come with rewards that can be quite promising.
however there is one thing I don't get, you can literally fight along side your navy in battle, get more kills and live longer than any of them and single handily rout capital ships and your navy doesn't even raise an eye to it? the only way to increase navy rank is to complete missions. nothing wrong with this. but usually its trade/data missions that can be used to farm navy rank and combat missions appear to be quite a bit more longer in comparison.
This is why I propose a conflict progression system for Naval powers, A flat kill and time related system across all ranks for combat associated with your naval power in the heat of battle. doesn't have to be anything major, i'm talking like 0.05% for a harmless to 0.5% for elite. perhaps 1% for routing capital ships. as for time, perhaps 0.2% every cumulative half hour. not enough for people to farm but still there to acknowledge your efforts.
really this system is to reach out to dedicated combat players who would like to represent their powers Navy in combat rather than trade. I know there is massacre missions out there. but naval ranking vs time input with those doesn't quite match the progression rate of trade or data missions ( I can get 20-40% a day with ranks petty officer-ensign, in 2 weeks I have progressed over 4 times doing trade runs)
as another suggestion while I think of it. weekly payouts by the navy wouldn't be half bad either, again nothing major. but sufficient.
