[REQUEST] Different spectrum filters for cockpit

The request is fairly straightforward and I know straight off the bat it's probably one for the wishlist, but I definitely would like to see it :)

Stars show up differently in different spectrums, the Wolf-Rayet stars for example are shedding loads of mass at a ridiculous speed and although they can get to several million times brighter than the sun, their visual brightness isn't much different. If you could have an Ultraviolet filter that could be applied to your cockpit windows, then you would see it for all it's glory. You would see the entire of the galaxy background in a different way.

So the idea. 4 interchangeable filters: Standard, Ultraviolet, X-ray, Gamma-ray. They would need to apply to all the windows in the cockpit.

I personally don't see this as a module that you would have to buy, I would imagine it could come as standard on all ships, though I'm open to reasons against that.

I am on board with this. The galaxy looks vastly different in different wavelengths and isn't exploration a major part of this game?

Not to mention the advantages everyone would have flying through a dark asteroid field. This technology already exists today. I see no reason why it can't be like the HUD, in that the filter/display only works as long as the canopy is intact.

Fully intact? I've gotten too close to one too many Neutron Stars and my canopy is badly cracked now. 4,000Ly from civilisation I'm getting a little concerned ;)

This is a GREAT idea, honestly i didn't even think about it. this would increase immersion a lot. I would expect when canopy is cracked it would still somewhat work, like when you slighty crack your smart phone but still can use it. of course once your entire canopy is gone, well duh, sorry sucker.

I really hope the devs take a look at this post as it would be a great edition to upcoming updates.

YES! I like this! It'd take quite a while to implement but seriously, I -like- this idea. And it'd be best if it was just a smooth, stepless scale, sliding without problem from the longest radiowaves to the shortest gamma rays. That probably won't happen, but it'd be cool to take a look at a ship in infrared mode, see the thrusters and radiators glow... Oh yes. Yes, yes, yes.

I think that'd be much harder to implement than might first be thought. The colours in the game are all pre-painted textures. You'd need a completely new set of textures for every new band of energy you want to show.

It's not at all hard to implement, it would just take a long time to do so. But unlike a lot of suggestions made here, this is a technically very feasible thing to do on long-term. New 'crunch' code would be very limited. It'd be mostly artists working at it.

And it doesn't have to be implemented NEXT PATCH, just that it'd be cool to have at some point.

This sounds awesome. Imagine piloting through space with the microwave background visible.
