I'm curious to know from the wonderful 3rd party makers out there if anyone is working on or has release a tool similar to EDDI, except it outputs to text instead of speech. Think the screen in the X-Wing in Episode 5, where R2-D2's speech pops up in a live ticker for Luke to read. EDDI is amazing and I use it with every ED session. I just prefer text output to TTS. Mostly because I often am doing trade runs (almost to Elite) or passenger missions (I'll get that darned Corvette yet!) and I usually mute ED and run Plex or Netflix on my extra screen, and I prefer not to have MS David talking over top of Sam and Dean (points to everyone who gets that reference [big grin]). Again, EDDI is an amazing tool and I have the utmost respect for the coders out there that create tools like these.
What would be neat is for jgm (or another coder) to create an EDDI responder for outputting the text to something, say an OSD window that could be up on top ED (al la Captain's Log overlay mode) or output to the G19 display, or an Android app, or all of the above, the easiest being a simple auto updating text box. I'm not a coder so I am not sure how hard this would be, but if I am understanding jgm's explanation of how EDDI works on his Github page, the text is already there, it just needs sent to a responder that sends to a text output instead of the TTS engine.
Just my two cents, let me know if I am talking outta my rear driver coil or if I should move this post elsewhere (they really need a tool request section here (hint hint mods
