Request for FD. We want visual damage on ships and paint jobs!

Would you like FD to implement visual damage and decay on the paint job and/or hull ?

Greetings CMDRs,

I know this has been discussed previously in several occasions, but we still have none and Frontier seems to continue ignoring this feature.
There is also plenty of other things than need to be included, and many issues that need to be fixed in the game but it seems such a pretty simple feature to implement and that would add a huge level of immersion.
Imaging how cool it would be flying around with scars from an engagement or coming back from a long exploration journey with a very damaged paint job showing how hazardous the journey was etc etc

It was demanded from the very beginning of the early stages of the game and it is still to be seen.

We have the possibility to repaint the ships at the moment, but it is stupid since the paint jobs are made of adamamtium or something and show too little to none scratches.
There were plans for it but strangely enough the feature has been forgotten:

So i though to bring this subject again with a poll and a proper discussion with the goal of giving FD a clear message from the community that we want this feature!

Cheers

The conda already has a damage model. It would be a nice thing to see on other ships, but really, I think FDev are concentrating on the bigger crocodiles that are closer to the canoe right now. Also, you mention a poll?

Yes i understand that there are other things more important but it is sad that they keep not addressing it since it was one of those very demanded features from the community from very start of the game history.
I mean, since then the community asked for tracks on planets left by the SRVs, the radio chats from the stations ... and we got them because it wasn´t a big deal to implement. I believe it is the same with this one.
At least not changes on the geometry of the ships models but a decay decal for the paint job! It is not that hard.
Every time i look at this feature in Star Citizens it make me very sad not to have it in Elite, because it is so immersive and badass.

About the poll its seems it is disabled so i cant add one. Hopefully some mod can help with it pretty please?

Report the threads first post, requesting a poll.

include all the options you wish to have in the poll.

David Braben has already said they implemented it on the conda because they advertised it in one of the videos on that ship but as it was a lot of work they will leave it at that.
The conda is the only ship with damage modelling.

This has come up many times before and is a sought after feature. It was very present during the Alpha but now it seems to have faded away or there are some minor dmg but not much. In Alpha there was flaking of paint and rust to go along with it. Although maybe they implement it in the future again. Why they removed it may be because it took a strain on hardware resources. But who knows. There might be other reasons. I guess its on Frontiers "to do" list which according to Mr Brookes is getting very big :)

Wow! That is awesome!!! I imagine such an awesome scratches on my bloody red iClipper! This ship's design is so perfect, so elegant, I would love to see such a damages on it, while crusin' around my baby with SRV. I would defo never repare it fot to keep this "used" look!! :)

It has been on again/off again in there since at least the pre-release beta. I wish they'd just straighten it out and put it back in. The worst it gets right now is small chips in the paint.

This was my Sag A* Asp at 0% paint:

I would also like more GOOD paint jobs.
For ALL the ships.
And way more decals.

I may also have mentioned that PowerPlay decals and paint jobs, are on my wishlist. [yesnod]

Proper damage models are time consuming but I'm very eager to see them on larger ships. The Imperial Cutter looks a bit silly in combat atm: they explode from battle damage but still look shiny and white as though they just rolled off the showroom floor.

Even if damage models are a long way off, FD really need to roll out good and persistent damage textures: the current ones are tiny and rudimentary. Leaving a battle with burn marks, shell impacts and hull breaches would add a lot to combat imo, and would be fairly easy to achieve with textures. I'm surprised that decent damage textures are still missing.

I'd assumed this was going to be added with Horizons, but somehow they took 2 steps back. The devs did confirm it was being worked on, but no ETA.

I mean, i can understand that modifying the mesh on the models takes time and it is a lot of work, but when it come to using textures.
There so much it could be done only with textures, and would be very easy to implement. We could be talking about decaying paint jobs after been exposed to hazardous environments for long periods of time; of course marks after a combats like burns and scratches, cracks on the hull etc. So my point is that they dont need to go as far as reworking several 3d models for each ship but use textures that could be use in all ships.
