[Request] Full Support for "Overclocked" GPU's

Hi all,

I've been pointed in this direction after a discussion with Frontiers Customer Support regarding stability issues of the game with overclocked graphics cards:

If you feel strongly that overclocking is something that should be focused on by our team then please post on our forums so our developers and designers can take it into consideration for a future update.

The "Overclocked" in the title is placed in inverted commas as I run an EVGA GeForce GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 which has a stock clock speed of 1266 MHz. Due to blackscreens coming out of hyperspace I've been asked to reduce that base clock to something closer to the stock GTX 980 speeds (1126 MHz). Whilst I'll unlikely notice the difference in performance I find it somewhat objectionable having spent money to improve my systems performance, only to have to reduce it by over 10% in order to have a stable game experience.

There's several threads already in the bug reporting forums suggesting that this is perhaps something Frontier might need to be looking at, which I summarised in my own bug report here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=141820

In short could you please devote some time to ensuring the game can run at factory clock speeds?

Cheers

FD Customer support told me to write this here so I beleive I've reported it to the correct place.

They know they have stability issues, they just need to work them out.

Games have 0 say in overclocking, if you are getting black screens, then you have an issue with your graphic card could be drivers could be physical card.

But it is not the game's fault, at all, so it is not the game that is at fault one bit.

I have a GIGABYTE GTX980 with a base speed of 1228 and boosts to 1329 occasionally and so far, I have had no problems. Perhaps your drivers are corrupt or need updating.

Nope, its a problem with the EVGA SC cards, I sent mine back for testing when I got it and I got constant crashes to desktop when coming out of hyperspace, Ebuyer found no issues with the card so I investigated further.
Found loads of people complaining here and elsewhere of the exact same issue, all with EVGA SC 980's or 970's
I ended up getting rid of mine and getting an Asus Strix Gtx 980 that has worked flawlessly
Upon talking to Louise through my support ticket she said that they were aware of issues with EVGA Superclocked cards and were looking into it, if 1 make of cards is having major issues with a game then I cant see it being the games fault.
Ive read of many suggestions for making the game work better on EVGA SC cards, all of them revolve around downclocking.
Personally I think the cards are just clocked too close to tolerance and thats why they're falling over with certain aspects of this game.

Hehe, well this was a card I won from an Elite: Dangerous / NVIDIA competition... I wonder how the returns process works in this case! ;)

The card is rock solid in all other aspect of the game, I would typically run at 1366 MHz boosting to 1508 or so, the only issue arises when having to jump between systems.

Oh I've had it turned down for Elite since the start of the issues, a friend of mine gave me a tip off, so I kind of anticipated it. ;)

Generally I have no issues with the card... it's a monster! It'll play GTA V all day with these values (below), I just hope I won't always have to nerf the card to run Elite.

FD have said they're looking into why the EVGA cards have this instability with the game when exiting hyperspace. I'm just following through on promoting the issue as they requested.

Thanks for your responses folks, it's reassuring to hear that it's not an isolated issue.
