I see - that makes sense. Shame, but I can see the point.
As for making Elite have a fully-implemented market, I have an EVE subscription. I've barely touched it since Elite got playable.
Far from being something to entirely aspire to, I believe EVE presents plenty of things to avoid to all that come after it. Some people really love the way EVE plays, and that's great, EVE is for them, but Elite is an antidote, both for those that hate EVE and those that love it - a true huge sandbox with enough realism to be immersive without the "having a second job" element of EVE.
The market is one part that I found particularly refreshing in its artificial simplification. You can use spreadsheets to min/max your trading, but you have the option of not doing so and just trading on demand, with instant sale and instant purchase always available at the published rate. Trading in EVE is frustrating if you don't use the standard spreadsheets-in-space.

The other thing is: You can move to another part of the galaxy without leaving clutter everywhere. Joy!
