Request: Passenger Mission Chain

Ask anybody who has ever traveled, and they'll all share one thing in common:

At some point in time they've left something important somewhere - on a plane, in a cab, at a hotel. It happens, and we can reach an almost panicked state when we realize it.

I'd love to see a pop-up follow-up mission that goes something like:

"CMDR, you recently transported me and I realized I'd left something vitally important on your ship. I was hoping you would be willing to return this to me. Of course, I'll compensate you for your time."

If the mission is accepted, spawn in one Personal Effects commodity and off you go to return somebody's lost something.

As it stands, we have other issues with passenger missions in that the way the devs have coded it -- passengers don't treat us as airlines, they treat us like Taxi/Uber/Lyft drivers -- sometimes making obscene requests on us to divert here, there and anywhere their whims (read: RNG) drive them.

Further, this might become a problem in coding -- particularly if the commander doesn't have a cargo bay for these sort of trinkets/chachkas can get stored in. Not to mention the insanity of adding more sorts of cargo types to the game -- because in case you're not aware of it -- that little handbag Passenger Polly Purebred happened to forgotten in the passenger cabin -- is going to take 1 TON of space.

Sounds good in theory, but terrible in implementation.

Personal Effects already exist, have existed for quite some time. They can be found in Signal Sources as Salvage Items.
If the ship being operated does not have a cargo rack, then the mission cannot be accepted at that time. No harm done.

Yes, we're treated like chauffeurs not pilots, but at the same time, it's not entirely unlike...

I own a small cruising ship, and I often make myself available for charter cruises. I have been asked countless times if we could make a stop somewhere along a route "Can we stop in Key West? My sister lives there and I'd just love to say 'hello'." or "Would it be possible to stop [at some place I've never even heard of], for [gods only know what they're talking about], I'll pay extra." (it's a full two hours out of the way, and at a bearing nowhere near our course). Or my favorite: "Oh, I hope you don't mind that I brought my Precious. She goes everywhere with me...." (I have a particular dislike of small dogs, especially the nearly hairless ones that large-framed wealthy women stuff in their purses like they're a fashion statement).

But when these folks are shelling out top dollar (sometimes upward of $2000/night), you do what you need to to keep them paying and coming back. I am, for the most part, just here to pilot the ship after all.

So no, I don't think implementation would be an issue, really, considering everything we need is already implemented. We're just using it differently.

If a passenger were carrying 1 ton of salvage items for their transport mission, I would be the first to jettison them like bad rubbish. :D

Good lord this is why you're suggesting this? You don't escape enough real life you want to have it in the game too?! And I thought I was a masochist when I take on consulting jobs (tech support mainly, but there have been others involving my skill set) outside of my normal job. Well good luck with this then. I was assuming you were suggesting this based on player sadism. I had no idea it was a masochistic treat.

Here's a +1 for admitting publicly to that self-indulgence.

Masochism is membership in Les Clefs d’Or - the national organization of hotel concierges. You think we get outrageous requests!
