Saltie Mae: Looking at your "avatar" I don't doubt it:)

But you must admit others may have a better taste:)

A unique taste yes, but not better

I think there is already a healthy balance of conventional and unconventional beauty on the mission boards. Like the last post says, lots of variety already out there

FrogsFriend: Again, your nick says everything:) I admit there are tons of factions, but they could vary a few hundred likeable, real-faced persons (an epic game or a movie, etc should portray the ideal in every type of characthers, not the commonplace, highlighting goodness, badness - and yes what only real persons (actors maybe) and artists are able to portray. But they could use a few hundred templates of them varied in different ways, like different backgrounds, different hair, different zoom, angle, etc. just as with the present cheap graphics does.

From your selection, really there are normal faces. From the 60 only 8 is acceptable for me, on this quality.

I think you all just got used to this low standard, and as a child 'running with a dirty headless doll' you just don't want to get rid of them:)

Saltie: I am just competent ranked, and I can say the central part of Federation is not a healthy balance, as I described above. Ugliness, slummyness, spiritless-ness, politically correct ratios far from reality, low quality graphics is not an unconventional beauty. It's what it is.
If there would be only logo's or flags of each faction - I would have a better play-experience. These faces are not very, but slightly annoying for me, - sorrily.

Now I know that there are some better out there:) I am in the feminist constellation, now:)

Absolutely not a good job regarding the core systems around Sol, where I play normally. And the opposite for me. The greater rank, the younger the person is.
Have you checked the picture in my first comment? Is that young white-haired hippie girl a Chancellor?? Come on.

metatheurgist: I am from a country (not from the western part of Europe) where these times are decent charismatric leaders, fortunately, that is why I could think who made and approved those pictures had never seen a leader.
That is only one thing. There is graphics quality, aliveness, spirit, decent-looking, gender and race ratios - with accordance to the power itself, etc. many more imperfection. Maybe good for a game like Freelancer or Fallout 3 or Deus Ex 3, but not for today ED.

The overall effect they do on me is disappointing, sometimes annoying - as I wrote above - they are not likeable.

You keep bringing up the gender/race ratio, why is that?

I'm sure living in space even 1000 years in the future will be hard on the human body.

I think it lacks animation.

most games today we have right to facial animations and movements, the holo-me to animations. I think animated images would give a lot of life to the game, even if they must be repetitive.

This is on point. They already have the holo-me character generator which is used to generate the portraits. Those portraits are cartoonized holo-me generations.

20 or so office backdrops, 20 or so outfits, with color palette randomizers, with the holo-me source characters standing / sitting with there current spot animations would be a vast improvement over the current static portraits.

Bard's Tale in the 1980's had spot animations on portraits. Pretty sure Masters of Orion II in the 90s did too. What year is this? 2018? WTH?
