In the current game, if you want to plot a route to a faraway system 70+ LY away from where you are, you'll often have to wait for up to a minute before the game is ready, as it seems it calculates the routes to all the nearby starts around your current location first.
My suggestion is this: If you click the Select button for the faraway star you want to go to, bump the priority for route-calculation to this system up to the top. This should cut the wait-time by a lot, and should be simple to implement.
