So, I'm new to Elite Dangerous and her universe. I bought the game because I thought (and still think) it looks beautiful and because I have hope. I hope that the game play improves and here are some areas where it is just completely lacking.
Mining - pretty much everything about this gameplay is terrible. First, without raw materials you can't build anything but there doesn't appear to be any connection with these commodities and what these produce. For example, ships, components and docks all need alloys, raw materials to produce. There's no scanners to inform you on what is in an asteroid belt in the year 3300?! We've got better sensors in the real world today! We've got to play pick'em'up to get our neatly canned can of something that just got spit out of the mining beam? Really? Give me a grappling hook or something (aka a tractor beam!)! Make mining dangerous! Make mining like a mini-game where you have to keep power levels to the beam inside of a range or else the asteroid pops on you with the real possibility of damaging your ship...oh and our ships...a cargo space of 4 for materials that sell for 54 credits? Really? No. For the Love of God no!
Trade - Pricing data? Do we really even need to say it? Real-Time awareness exists today but not in the year 3300? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff8ucnnr1Xg (Come'on'man!) Lets get real-time data in game from anywhere or even lets say 100LYs or something. Give us what's in transit, where goods are bountiful and where it's needed and put that galaxy map to use! Give us the data in there, not when we dock, really?! Knowing what's in transit will let player pirates know where to setup some trap attempts and rat hunters know where some bounty rewards are...perhaps experienced players know these hot routes but for the newbie this is all magic.
300 billion and there's a whole lot of hurry up and wait...where's the adventure in exploring when it costs too much or the time and effort see's zero returns? I know we're hitting for some realism but this is supposed to be a game, I've got boredom in real life a plenty! I've only been playing the game for a week and already get board with all the travel mechanics when computers should be able to do what I am forced to do...
Right now the game's got a great sim mechanic, congrats, but as for a fun game, not so much. Fights are far and few between, trade is useless in game and serves no point other than docks that are starving to death in need of supplies but don't pay you for them, mining doesn't seem to be supplying the universe with its building materials, there's no player made goods that I'm aware of, etc., etc. Perhaps these are all on a roadmap somewhere, which brings me to if there is a roadmap, why isn't it linked to the top of this forum as a sticky so we can see what's on the road and not pester y'all with our silly and fickle needs and wants
