Hello Frontier.
Just wanted to say that I’d love to see Infestation and/or V2000 get a second life.
I ran a couple of screenshots through AI image generators (aka AI slop), and even those look halfway decent (See attached files)
With proper remasters, these games could seriously slap.
And I don't even think the core gameplay loop would need to be adjusted too much.
Just improved compatibility with newer operating systems & improved graphics would be enough.
(V2000 won't even run properly on the latest version of W11. I can run Infestation at 4k using dgVoodoo though).
If you’re not planning any revivals, would you ever consider open-sourcing these titles?
They’re effectively abandonware at this point, and I doubt there’s much commercial risk since the codebase is over 25 years old.
They’re not available for purchase anywhere outside a couple of eBay listings.
I'm sure the community would take it from there.
I was able to extract some assets from both games, but the process is unreliable.
Also, the best I can do is upscale the assets, but I can’t reintegrate them.
Having the original ones and source code would be a godsend.
Thanks for the memories, and I hope this is something you'd be willing to at least entertain.
Cheers!
