Requesting docking over comms

Hi,

I don't have much against the way you request docking at the moment but I thought it would be nice to be able to see the docking station while you do it. How about adding the possibility to hail and request docking over comms?
I'd have thought it would be pretty realistic, too.
Not to mention queuing system...

What do you think?

Yes, the docking option should be available in the comms menu, also possibly the navigation screen. When I first started playing I thought there was a bug where the docking option would dissapear from the menu but in actual fact I was using the navigation tab instead of the contacts tab to try to request docking. Could confuse other new players that.

I also think a queueing system for docking when all the bay's are full is needed. When Gamma started lots of players began in the area that I was in and many were trying to dock at a small outpost nearby. People were spamming the docking request option and it was pure luck if you got request granted as a ship left. Would be much fairer to put players in a queue and show their position and when they can proceed.

I also would like if the docking request would be done threw the comms system, it reminds me of X games before they got commercialize.
It would for sure bring more immersion to the game. ( Which is the most important for the space sim if you ask me ).

No. it wouldn't be nice .. it would be GREAT .. to have meaningful verbals with NPC stations (and ships) that affect game decisions like this. I think it's possible to build a Voice Attack Macro to do this (though there's no direct key binding to request docking) but not integral to Elite Dangerous of course.

+1 to a docking queue too.

While having some simple verbal interactions with NPCs would be good I think it should be possible to just have drop down of a few options, there should be economy in the number of keystrokes required. Lock onto Station > Coms > UI down scroll > Select > Docking request granted.

I like the idea, was planning on making the same suggestion.

What I would look for is something along the lines of a key binding to contact the currently targeted object and this give a fixed menu of items under it so that request docking is just a matter of asking for it and with Glove pie or other voice command items this can be spoken.
With GlovePie I have built a library of voice commands and it has grown quite large for all aspects of shipboard controls but as far as interacting with the universe through comms you still have to select the object you want to talk to so to request landing permission the whole immersion is lost when you have to say 'Request Docking from Item 1' rather than 'Request docking clearance from Station 1' or even better 'Request Docking from Obis station'.

Some sort of hooks for Glove pie and others would be a god send to help voice up the controls because keeping track of where the cursors in the panels is a real pain as you flick back and forth between screens, tabs and entries and main view.
Especially annoying for a system that cannot get the order of the entries in the lists is when items are disabled and/or removed as this knocks out any fixed line/column counting being done.

A recent change has made a command 'Run Silent' be problematic since it relied on getting to the top of the modules list and switching off modules s it goes through the list. Now it loops top to bottom so I never know if I am exactly at the top.
