Horizons Requirements for buying a Python?

Reputation - Rank? or just go to a station where it's available and just buy it?

If you go to any Li_Yong-Rui system, you can get the python for 48 mills of Cr, after that you will need almost 100 mills Cr extra to upgrade the modules to A class, and after that you will have to upgrade all these modules with engineers if you play OPEN, if you play SOLO or PRIVATE, no problem with the standard upgrades. And always keep the rebuy price in hand if you are destroyed (is from 9 miils to 11 aprox)

124 million? You've confused the Conda. More like around 57 million before any discounts. And you'll need 150 million to get it nicely A spec'ed.

you're right!!! lol yeah 124 mills is the conda, 48 is the python, but will need about 100 to upgrade the most important modules and weapons, and at least a military grade bulkhead

you dont need 100m just dont A rate it right away, just get ur Thursters sorted and best pp u can, keep enough for insurance and away you go. Best thruster and DD3 would be main prioty, then a grade 3-5 fsd. With a cargo loadout you will soon farm enuff creds to A rate it.

Even if you skimp on the powerplant (7C vs 7A) and shields (Get Bi-weaves instead of the expensive 6A), You should still plan on spending about 45 Million on upgrades after purchase. So basically dont buy it until you have at least 110 Million in cash.

This. So much this. At least one rebuy and enough to replace whatever cargo you're carrying. If you can't afford the base price, a couple of rebuys and a cargo replacement, hold off. It's less pain in the long run.

Money!

I would advise having a good bit of cash on hand to buy the better rated modules. I love the python but she flies like a pig with the standard outfitting. The other option is to spend much less on modules and run about the bubble getting engie upgrades.

problem with that is you are going to waste your resources on substandard mods.. may as well farm the cash when ur in it and do the engie grind once you have A rated mods to upgrade.

you really dont need to spend that much at first, I bought mine with just enuff for the buy back, and upgraded it while on the go. Btw when i bought mine it was day after 2.0 came out so it was a lot harder with the mad npc and constant interdictions. the point im making is you can build a ship up without having the best gear, do a few long range haulage missions from soothis, ceos and due to the cargo space in a python be making 30-45m a run. which is probably going to be the fastest way of upgrading it.

Python=Swiss Army knife.

For some time I had an FAS and a Python. before the Engineers it was my favorite ship (bounty hunting, tanked), it has overheating, range and gun placements issues but it's a dogfighter and can get close to the big ships and beat them down. The Python was for trading.

Then the Engineers came down and the FAS became a liability as it's lack of space hobbled it. Mining, exploration and more armament became a need and the Python was pressed into duty as an all-around ship. Fast forward to today, the FAS is gone and the Python is all I fly, it has level 5 mods for the FSD, the MC's, the SB's and SG's. All the armament has experimental effects and working on others. Plus it has room for cargo and different rigs.

I go into CZHI (carefully!), HIRES and now ambush the "tasty cargo" crowd and with dirty drive and FA/off, it's good in a fight. I've been able to run 4 pips in systems and 2 in weapons and not run out of power, plus with 4 MC's and 1 3C thermal vent laser, overheating isn't an issue. It's about 160 to 190 mill CR depending on the loadout.

My other ship is a Corvette that I put all my mod FAS modules in and use it as module storage for now until I can outfit it (long term project, already 183 mill CR and not ready for prime time).

You won't go wrong with the Python.

I bought my first Python as soon as I had enough Cr to upgrade from a T7. The T7 could hold 200T cargo but it was a sitting duck in Open.
I rushed out to buy a Python, without thinking of the cost of the upgrades and ended up staring at the rebuy screen quite a bit.
I didn't know of coriolis.io or edshipyard.com before buying one so I had no idea how much it will end up costing.

Thinking back, I should have saved the credits until I could afford half decent upgrades, I would have saved a lot on rebuys.

It is an absolute dog off the shelf, but with a few upgrades, it can be quite a versatile ship, so much so that I am considering buying a second one and outfit it for a different role.
To this day, the Python is the ship that I use most of the time, mainly because it will land at outposts, where most of the high paying missions are sending me to.
Almost fully A rated, except the Powerplant to save some weight in order to have a desired jump range, and a couple of minor (read: hardly any) engineers upgrades, it is a ship
worth investing in.

Take on board the valid points outlined in the previous posts above and once you have the funds, enjoy your new Python.
This is taken from my spreadsheet, as the figures on coriolis.io or edshipyard.com vary from my actual ship.
(There are no provisions for engineers upgrades on these sites)
This may not be everyones way of outfitting a Python, but at the moment, this is what I use and it works rather well for missions.
