RES Hunting In Open

On my recent restart, I decided to go with a bit of RP, in that the starter ship is a loan from a friend. So ran missions in the Freewinder until I could purchase my own Sidey.

Which I promptly took to the local RES (Kremainn) and, well, shot at enemies for no profit. Other commanders always seemed to land the last hit, even when I moved away from the busiest areas.

Am I right in assuming hunting in such populated RES while in a little ship is a pointless endeavour?

If so what would you suggest? I doubt an Eagle would perform much better. So it seems my only options are to grind for a Viper or move to a less populated area.

Moving to solo or a private group is always on the cards, but racking up millions in bounty vouchers for just tagging 'conda's and watching the fuzz blow them up feels cheap to me.

As a parting remark, the two CMDR's who got your jollies ramming and destroying my clean, harmless Sidewinder in your Vulture and Viper (you know who you are). Your names have been noted and I will find you once I obtain a better ship, and I will return the favour.

If you're planning on combat, an eagle is a much bigger step up from a sidewinder than the stats alone might suggest. Plus, it's really cheap to buy and outfit.
That third gun makes a lot of difference, but just remember you're a light fighter-- you're not invincible.
AKA The eagle has less armour than a paperweight when the shields go down. Once you've got the eagle it shouldn't be too far to a viper and from there, a conda or a vulture.

Remember you need to hit in the last 10 seconds before it dies to get the credit, but if you're trying to match DPS with a viper or vulture you'll lose every time,
I'd suggest hunting in some Nav beacons for now-- it's slower paced but there will be fewer system security and Cmdrs to compete with.

I'll wing up with you if you want some coop jollies? PM your CMDR name if you are interested, you'll get enough to purchase a Viper or Cobra from it.
