RES / Influence

Happy Friday!

I have a quick question, which I hope can be cleared up easily.

I'm trying to gain some Empire ranks. I've been doing fine so far with missions; I've made it to Squire with minimal mission effort. I'm currently Allied with all major (and thus minor) factions. I'm aware that in the current patch, the minor "Allied" status is somewhat obscured, even though it says Allied.

Now - if I'm in an Empire system and decide to do some bounty hunting in a RES, is it essential that I *only* go after non-Empire (minor) faction ships in order to not mess up my influence with the Empire? I've read some conflicting information about this. It'd be a bit of a drag if I went on a "kill everything 'Wanted'!" spree and found that I'd set myself back a whole lot with the Empire.

Thanks!

In my (shorter) experience, I take out all 'wanted' period. I'm currently a Baron for the Empire and I wasn't aware you were not supposed to shoot down 'Wanted' allied factions if you didn't want to lower your reputation. You can shoot a few here and there without issue. As long as the RES you are in is not full of them, your fine.... especially if you turn in your bounties you do it at your allied station - as that will lessen/negate the impact of a few allied 'Wanted' kills.

So in short, don't worry about a stray 'Wanted' in you faction and kill them if you are money hungry. All my Empire mates are still Green and I kill all Wanteds...

In short : Yes, absolutely

You'll lose Reputation with any local System Faction that you attack/destroy Ships of, even if they're clearly Pirates, the Faction isn't Pirate-friendly at all and even if they pay you high bounties for doing exactly that.

Makes absolutely no sense with the non-Pirate aligned Factions.... but that's the way it is.
So make 100% sure you remember the name of all Empire-aligned Factions before engaging any Target.

PS.
Don't even engage in self-defense against Empire-aligned Faction ships if they're Psycho/Pirate type and they interdict to kill you. You have to ignore them and make a runner instead.

---------------------
The only "clean" alternative :

Move to an entirely Independent Anarchy System RES site instead - that way you stand no chances of ever losing Empire Reputation (or any other Government).
The price will be that you'll distribute alot of the Bounty over various Factions and Governments - thus you can use only a small part of the Bounties to gain Empire reputation.

They need to make if you bounty hunt for example the Empire you do not lose rep for killing Empire criminals.

Currently I've been memorizing the local non-Empire factions of a given system and going after only them. Letting go of a lot of Anacondas, sadly...

Well, it sounds like one "absolutely" and one "not so much", so far - it does seem like a topic that people are a little uncertain about!

I'm Viscount with the Empire, and when I hunt at RES sites I kill everything. I hunt in Empire systems. Maybe it slowed down my progression? But I never noticed my rep going down to the point of going "oh noes I have to watch who I'm killing". Doing RES and doing trade missions I was able to get my rep and ranks up fast.

I say kill everything. Make that money. Don't worry too much about the Rep.
