RES Reset – Immersion Breaking

Scrap Persistant RES site altogether,Only find pirates in super cruise in USS or trying to interdict you,RES site should be non persistant,They should occur at a rate dictated by the circumstance in the system,An alert would appear on the station buletin board ,You fly to the location eliminate a number pirates generated by the RES spawn, then it dissapears,

I actually like this idea.
I'm not a big fan of "Res Farming" as it detracts from the essence of the game and invokes the use of the word "grind", even if it is one of the more fun ways to do it. It's a bit too "anti-experience" too much and more "Fast Rank".
If they were to exist they would need to be very heavily controlled as you'd expect a system to do if it's the main export from that system. Basically, more viable for Miners than for Bounty Hunters and a place that pirates would fear to tread so there shouldn't be that many in a Res site, unless a Low security system but these should be limited.
A smart Pirate would hang around on the periphery outside the Zone, waiting for Miners to leave with the good stuff and then interdict.
Bounty hunters should be watching for lurking Pirates.

Maybe Mining should be done in Belt Clusters as well. A bit more risky because no security but maybe a higher chance of better ore.
While I'm at it, how about some Frontier Mining efforts in Unknown Space looking for new materials, this could led to something similar as the Gold Rush in US Cowboy times.
So much could be done with that regards Galnet and could even lead to new things that could be outfitted to your ship. More unknown quantities as well.

Just thoughts.

I agree RES reset is a very bad mechanic.

Along with that is the way the NPCs are randomly created based on the players rank.
This goes wrong when doing wings.
I can be in a RES by myself getting wings of 3x Clippers at deadly rank and the assorted Pythons and Dropships.
If a wing member joins me The big ships stop coming and only small ships are there now. no matter if they are same rank, lower rank or higher rank than me.

The whole system should be static and perm.
The type of NPCs should be based on the Government type of the system and which Major and Minor faction the RES falls in.
Population, Powerplay, Ore Resources (pristine, etcetc) should all decide what type of NPCs are at the RES and what rewards are offered.
If your ship cannot handle what you find there you move on, but the RES type stays the same no matter how many times you reset it.

RES should be living, bustling microcosms. Depending on the nature of the system, there should be big, dedicated NPC mining vessels the size of warships gliding along the rings, scouring the area. There should be convoys of freighters turning up to unload orbital silos, whose contents would be filled by smaller miners. There should be high security corporate and government mining operations with asteroid bases and a patrolled security perimeter, with rebels and rivals occasionally attempting to raid such installations. There should be low security, independent mining operations with gangs of angry, paranoid miners in small ships who would chase off players who strayed too close, with roaming bands of pirates waiting for one of the herd to become separated. There should be coms chatter between all these entities; squabbling between the minors, and encoded transmissions exchanged between security services. There should the possibility of stumbling upon military facilities hidden away in the belt, or straying into mine fields. There should be pirate bases, and forgotten mining outposts covered in deranged automated guns. There should be shipwrecks full of valuable resources, but swarming with scavengers.

Instead, there are blips that spawn in response to the player, and some of them pretend to mine for a bit, while others pretend to be pirates by suicidally attacking all the wrong targets, and they will never change so long as you stay there, and they have no purpose, and everything is limited to them and the rocks.

If all the weekend trolls could get over the immersion comment, the op actually has a point. Current RES implementations is terrible. At the very least they need to remove the 'good RES', 'crap RES' mechanic and just have a spread of all ships and ranks in all RES, bracketed somewhat by High/Normal/Low intensity. Even that would be a vast improvement over what they have now.

Sadly there seems to be nobody coming up with, or willing to authorise implementation of, interesting and creative mechanics. They're great at the 'big picture', but are failing horribly on the details. It's a shame they don't seem to be willing to take on any of the myriad of great ideas that their community have put forward. But hey, they're making the game they want to make, apparently.

I see nothing wrong whatsoever with the OP's request. Certainly nothing that should be ridiculed like this.

OP is suggesting that resource extraction sites act the way FD described they should act, with the indicated risk/reward style environments. That allows players to set their own level of difficulty/challenge/reward naturally, by flying to the place that best suits them.

Having it work like the older version dice throw is no longer correct, as per FD's described patch-note update changes.

Go to likely haunt of Pirates, find the small fry..... hmm they aren't here...

Should I:

a) Contact my intel sources and head for the next most likely location of these villains, or
b) Break my "feeling of being in a believable universe" by logging out and in again repeatedly until the big fish arrive?

Choices, choices

As an aside to the main discussion, I keep seeing this

You can mine at belt clusters,
There are both NPC miners and NPC pirates in Belt Clusters, as well as System Authority Ships if applicable.
Belt Clusters of that have a high number of "moon masses" to them can have dozens of roids and if you are unlucky* endless Pirates

*unlucky as I go to mine not Bounty Hunt
