Newcomer / Intro Res sites not showing in navigation screen

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or just missing information. I am in a system, it has a gas giant with some RES sites in the rings. I have been there, killed some bounties, returned to the nearest station. But when in the station I press 1 for navigation window and none of the res sites show up....and I am not sure why.

Can someone clue this newbie in to why this is happening and what, if anything, I can do to fix it so when I visit a planet's res sites they will show up in my navigation menu.

RES sites do not show* on the navigation panel when you are docked. Nobody knows why. As soon as you leave the station they will show on your nav panel (so long as they are less than 1000LS away).

*actually they do show every once in a while.

RES sites farther away than 1000ls will not show up in the nav panel.

@MAIN SEQUENCE - as long as they are closer than 1000ls and you don't leave the instance (changing modes, exiting the game), they will show up. If you do leave the instance they will not show until you undock and leave the station. Why it is like that I do not know.

ah okay, so just a fluke the system I was in showed the res sites while docked. that kinda sucks, would be nice to be able to always choose them as destination while docked and not have to wait til out in the middle of space to do it.

If I get a better scanner will that help at all?

No unfortunately not, when in such a system if I have just logged in I will just fly out of the station at a safe speed and select the RES in flight but if they are selectable I will do so while docked but it isn't much easier one way or another and you have to select in flight if they are over the 1000ls limit anyway.

thanks for the info, at some point if I decide to do some exploration I know the better scanners are needed but wasn't sure about the RES thing

Most RES sites do not show on the nav panel when docked, so you have everything normal. Please don't ask for an explanation.

RESes do not show in the panel if you are docked and haven't left the station in that game session yet. It could be 0.50ls away and you wouldn't see it in the target panel.

RESes do not show if you are more than 1,000ls from them. CZs don't show if you are more than 500ls away.

If you have been outside the station in that session, RESes show in the target panel provided they are closer than the distance given above. If you have just logged in, you have to leave the station for them to show.

Yes the Discovery scanner (preferably Advanced to see the whole system) and Detailed Surface scanners are key for exploring, the Discovery scanner is worth fitting whenever you are travelling as you can pick up useful credits "honking" your way around the bubble.

The Discovery scanners tell you where there a planetary and stellar bodies in the system but they just show up as unexplored in your Nav panel until you visit them closely enough to scan.
