Personally I do like those massive evacuation missions. They are quick and dirty. But there is some potential to evolve those:
a) Naturally after certain runs the station has been evacuated. Or, people keep dying. You could add a timer / countdown for a player which shows potentially rescuable people (e.g. 100.000 counting to zero). Players need to rush to a station in rescue need or people will die.
b) as a reward next to the missions there should be an overall reward for how many total people a player rescued. let‘s say the player made 10 runs and rescued 2.000 people, that would equal 2% of the population. there could be a three level recognition if a player rescued 1%, 2% or 5% within the given time.
recognition could be:
1%: extra money
2%: extra money + extra reputation (especially when thargoids keep moving into the bubble with fed/imp stations)
5%: extra money + extra reputation + (unlock an engineer of this faction or if all unlocked provide special mats for this engineer or provide free rolls)
