I successfully managed to scrape a tissue sample from a Thargoid Cyclops in a non-human USS after firing the research limpet at it. As the limpet takes some time, surviving so long is the trick.

Where did you get one of those modules? Does it turn hostile?

Founder's world has them, didn't check other places yet. They're size 1 only.

As the Thargoid fired first, I am not sure whether the limpets turn them hostile or not.

The limpet brought the sample back to the ship and I had to open the Cargo hatch.

Cheched Palin, Obsidian orbital, the Indra and some planetary bases. I'll just go to Founders.
