Reset and keep discoveries?

I reset my profile at the start of last year, but I can't remember if I kept my first discoveries or not.

I'm taking a break from the game as the latest update seems to have messed things up a bit in VR (and I was running out of things to do and getting bored anyway), but when I come back I'm thinking of reseting my profile again - which will give me a purpose and much to aim for in the game. But will I lose my discoveries as well? Also, if I change my commander name when I reset will I lose them?

Your first discovery tags remain when you reset you save.
It's a pleasant surprise to drop into an 'unexplored' system and see your own name there.

I don't know what happens if you change your name, since I haven't tried it, but I suspect you'll keep your tags - though they may be in the old name.

I have reset and changed the name of a Cmdr several times to map a system, each planet with a different Cmdr name and all the names remain on the individual planets.

I asked Ed Lewis this exact question, and here it is ... Note I am typing it out from memory and may not present it here word-for-word as it was answered ...

Q: If I reset my save, but keep the same name, does my new save have the first discovered tags on the system I got a first discovered on with the previous save?

A: The name of the commander stays the same, regardless of what you name your new commander, but the tag is coded to that commander's name, so if you reset and use the same name again, your new save isn't the one who had the first discovered tag.

So basically, if Cmdr Alien #1 is the first to discover a system, and I reset to Cmdr Alien #2, it's still Cmdr Alien #1 who has the first discovered tag.

What would be of even more interest to myself is if I could reset my save but also keep explored states of each system. It's a big galaxy out there and I'd love to start from scratch but keep all my previous explored system states. Not everyone would want this option but I'd still like it if it was an option.
