Reset Graphics improves performance..is it just me?

Ok so I'm run a GTX770 with DK2. In my graphics setting I have everything set to low or off and the resolutions knocked 2 points down on the rift resolution slider.

My test scene, if you would like to call it that, is inside the hanger (same hanger every time) as this generally offers poor performance (i.e judder) and is very repeatable and consistent. With the above mentioned settings I can run it very smoothly (i.e no judder).

If I log out of ED and then return I get some judder coming back, however if I re-enter the graphics setting (make no changes) and hit apply it goes back to being judder free.

This make me wonder if :
a) not all the graphics setting are being applied when ED is launched
b) some witchcraft takes place when going into the graphics menu
c) I'm going mad...quite likely!

Anyone else noticed this?

I think I have narrowed down the issue the to root cause.

When you launch ED the Oculus Image Quality slider isn't being read from your saved preferences (its assumed to be on the highest quality). Only when you re-apply the graphics settings is the new setting being read.

I proved this to myself by lowering the quality setting to the lowest then applying the setting (oh it looks so blocky!). I then quit ED and re-launch ED only to find my view is sparkly crisp. I go back to the graphics menu, the quality slider is shown at the minimum so I don't touch it, only hit re-apply and the graphics go back to being blocky!

So if you have the quality slider anywhere below max, you will need to re-apply the graphics setting every time you launch ED. If you have it on max all the time then its not a problem!

I'll add these finding to my ticket.

WITCHCRAFT I say burn it!!

I'm on a 780ti dual classified. I have alalso noticed this minor judder but performance has been top notch will try this when I get home.

Soda makes a good point.

when I 1st load into elite and am sat in my cockpit I always leave well alone for 30s whilst it all settles down. ED does not handle loading in data whilst running the game at the same time well at all. I suspect much of the stutter people see (that isnt related to network issues) is linked to new assets loading in sometimes.

Could just be the extra time you're giving the game to load assets, while you are in the menu.

Nope, I just fired up ED and sat in the hanger a good 5 mins whilst waving my head side-to-side. I then popped into the Audio menu and reapplied that, that had no difference on the judder, sat in the hanger another 5 mins wiggling my head side-to-side.
Finally back into the graphics menu and hit apply after making no changes and its back to smooth as butter.

So after all of that I now know how a bobble-head feels! I have raised a ticket btw

running on a GTX 970, have noticed a recent performance drop. I'll try this and see what happens.... I have been having to randomly apply the control settings as once in a while mouse 1 clicks return me to desktop in the OR... always seems to happen when I need to engage my SC to escape too (which is what I have it set to on my HOTAS)

I have this from time to time, but I always reboot to restore performance. Does this work for you as well? I will try the menu trick, much faster :)

Loads of ships are being animated on the station and often something gets stuck underneath the internals.
we don't see it happening but still it is there being rendered upon your pc. So if you pop in and out or go to a menu then quite likely the situation is not the same as how you left if.
The largest factor is the ship you fly in. Sone are quite fps unfriendly.
so try to recreate the situation in deep space.

I've found that the training station is absolutely butter smooth, but the in-game stations judder. Either the additional load of drawing a few ships (the training station has none) pushes the card over the edge, or there's some other game code that's causing the stutter.

You need to tab into your desktop then click the minimised elite icon in taskbar then click to either the right or left of the desktop (whichever is being used as your external screen)

Is this doing the same in solo mode? have you tried this at same hanger in solo mode?
