Resetting Combat Rank

So rumour has it that if you contact support and ask them they will reset your combat rank thus making encounters in game far easier.

Can anyone who has done this successfully report here and how they went about it and an explanation of what went down?

I'm curious if this is happening.

Thanks :)

While not exactly what you were looking for there was a fellow who claimed this happened approximately 1 month ago. If I remember correctly he claimed it was easier. I hope this at least gives you a time frame to look for at least.

It is an option for those who fast tracked their way to high ranks. Support can reset your combat rank if you are getting your butt kicked all over the galaxy :)

Guilty as charged. Here is the text of my ticket to Frontier:

I am requesting that my Combat Rank be lowered to Harmless. I am primarily an explorer and got my rank while grinding for credits. I am neither a PvP player, nor a habitual NPC engager.

The only thing it affects, as far as I can tell, is the combat rank of random interdictors. It does not affect the rank of mission interdictors. It does not change the frequency of interdictions. It does not affect RES or CZ. If that sounds helpful, then go for it.

Yes this happens and it works. Folks have let me know after reading my post. I haven't had mine reset, still Dangerous because I worked out how to deal with NPCs but for some people this is helping a little.

Hmmmm....600+ hrs on an account wiped in an instant, or maybe 20 minutes dealing with support....yeah, 'easy' probably isn't the word.

Hahaha no. People want to keep their cash and ships and their other ranks. They just can't deal with the combat levels so if it makes interdictions a little less rough for them, great, let them have at it.

So... Can support raise my combat rank because I'm primarily an explorer and I find the NPCs way too easy to deal with? [blah]

Since your sarcasm was pointless, let me put it to good use. If Frontier would allow two saves, I would be using the second one for in bubble activities, including whatever combat that entailed. Given that my unarmed, lightly shielded ship was in the outer black with the rest of DWE when the changes came down, I decided to protect the investment of several months' (until this week, unpaid) work.

Now that I have had a chance to respond to those changes, I will be modifying my kit out philosophy, but I am still avoiding combat when possible as it is completely at odds with my one save's primary function.

It was a rhetorical question as I'm assuming support would not in fact raise my combat rank. However, it is an honest issue that I am confronted with while playing the game.

I don't think NPC difficulty should be based on player combat rank. Farming potato NPCs just so I can get a challenge once in a while doesn't sound like a good time to me, especially considering that I'm primarily an explorer in the game.

Other players' issues are for them to sort out, though I'm not apposed to providing some pointers to those looking for help nor winging up to help them on their way in. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/275000-Glowing-Paint-Job(s)-for-Rescue-Service-Ships

The difference is that you can raise your rank in game, you can't lower it, support must intervene for that to happen. Your finding the process unpleasant is unfortunate, but irrelevant.

You can clear a save too. "You finding the process unpleasant is unfortunate, but irrelevant." :p

It isn't irrelevant to the point I was making, which is that NPC difficulty shouldn't be based on combat rank.

Did they get to keep the credits from the combat kills too?

I wasn't asking because its something I want or am considering doing. I happen to find that its going on rather disappointing.

Since you can tend to that yourself, by simply killing highly ranked NPCs, which you seem to not be doing, no. The devs have laid out exactly what the XP needed according to your rank, so you know exactly what you have to do to advance.

Resetting combat rank will severely reduce the number of decent paying missions you will be offered as rank is often used to determine payouts.

I decided for a fresh start and wiped my almost 2 year old CMDR.

First 5 mins was a giggle....then it hit home......I panicked at the thought of going through the grind just to get back to where I am.....elite.

Emailed support begging for save to be reinstated.

God bless FD...and the wonderfull CMDR that sorted it at support...my old save lives!

I had my rank reset via support. I did a handful of missions without any random encounters. I only had one Dangerous python come after me as part of a data delivery mission update. Time will tell if it helps or not. I will need to avoid killing NPCs though which doesn't sound like a lot of fun. :)

I'm still out exploring again, far side of the core, won't be getting my combat rank reset. Got a lot to lose (financially and all those firsts) but that's the game, I'll take my chances. Ranks are deadly/tycoon/elite fwiw (not touched cqc).

Not that sure what to expect on my return as I departed a month or so before engineers beta.

This should be an automated process to take pressure off of FD and all online forum accounts should be tied to in game commander name.

How it works is, when you whine too much about hard AI on the forum you are automatically demoted to harmless in game. Perfect solution!
