Resistance Shields build / Corvette

Hello, I'm looking to change my shield setup on my Corvette, currently reinforced and HD boosters with approx 5.3k MJ strength.

Since the last update I've noticed a considerable change and feel alot squishier. I'm interested in thermal shield+resistant augmented boosted and maybe 2 64% hd boysters.

Is there a cap to resistancese or a diminishing returns value?? And can anyone recommend other setups?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes there's a hard cap at 75% and diminishing returns above 50%.

I have approx 3600MJ with 55% Kinetic, 49% Thermal, 65% Explosive using;

C7 G5 Reinforced Prismatics, 2xG5 HD Boosters 63%, 3xG5 Thermal Resist boosters, 1xG5 Resist Booster (off the top of my head).

Note that the information above on the break point of diminishing returns isn't correct. It is actually at 30% above the base resistance level, which is the resistance level of your shield generator *after modifications*.

You're going to be best off going to https://coriolis.edcd.io/ and playing with options there; it's pretty easy with the latest release to throw together an engineered build

Fixed weapons do more damage and PAs partly do pure damage, not sure going for higher resistances instead of total MJ is gonna be better.

Maybe some shield expert can comment, I do feel a bit squishier after the patch too. But I reckon that is PAs and fixed weapons buff.

With the fact that diminishing returns and the cap count from your modified base shield, it is ever and always best to use thermal resist shields as base. After that several things need to be taken into consideration.

First thing: Do you use SCBs and how many MJ can they recover ? You don't want so many HD boosters that the SCB charges become a drop in the ocean. So focus on resistance augmented boosters first, until you have at least 50% vs all. That turns every MJ of shield and SCB charge into double efficiency. Add HD boosters afterwards to help against plasmas. In this scenario your best shield is a prismatic.

If you don't use SCBs I'd still go for the thermal resist shields but focus more on HD boosters to get a large MJ pool. That scenario favors biweave shields, since nothing except pure regeneration rate is going to rebuild your shield.

C7 Reinforced Prismatics, 2x G5 thermal resistant boosters, 2x G5 resistance augmented boosters, 4x G5 heavy duty boosters.
Such setup would give about 5Gj of shields, good rolls will give you at least 40% in thermal resist and more than 50% in other two resists.
This build is PVE-only and thus does not use SCBs and other fancy PVP stuff like ECM and PD. Of course, the only way to recharge such monstrosity in the field is to reboot the ship (Not a problem in RES)

After all,all depends what your enemy has in his arsenal against you.How good your shields may look/configured on paper, can be easly depleted/-countered with kinetic, thermal solo or mix loadout, simple put: there is no ideal shield configuration. What is most important is not let enemy easy lay his weapons on your shield, which requires advanced flying skills.ie well executed alpha strike can make you shieldless in notime.

Thanks for the replies, I do use SCBs.

Changed it up abit and I'm now at

3245MJ

55.9 kin res
61.5 thermal
71.0 Exp

Hopefully get some more decent rolls tomorrow, and in a couple of weeks I'm eligible for prismatic Shields.

I would need to search for it, but there is indeed a diminishing returns on how Resistances work.

First Resist Augment Shield Boosters got nerfed, the cap being reduced from 15% to 13%, so every booster you had lost effectively 2%.

For the maths, turn the resistance to a damage multiplier first - -20% resistance becomes a 1.2 multiplier, while a 15% resistance becomes 0.85.

Second, multiply them together as you add the Shield Generator resistances to the Shield Booster resistances. Of course to fix that, add thermal resists on the Shield gen so the numbers change to 35% thermal, or 0.65 - with hopefully 4x resistance boosters it'll become 0.65*0.85*0.85*0.85*0.85=0.3393040625, or approximately 66% resists.

Then there is the higher diminishing returns on top of that, resistances above 50% get reduced again - I can't recall if it was stated, but I've assumed 50% reduction and its proven to be accurate.

So, take that 0.3393040625 multiplier and turn it into resistances - 0.6606959375, take off the 0.5 leaving 0.1606959375 and reduce that by half to 0.08034796875, then add the base 50% back for what should be the final 0.58034796875 or 58% total.

And in hopefully a simple nutshell, that is how the shields get hit with diminishing returns nowadays.

Of course, as I stated all Resistance Augmented shields got hit by 2%, so that is likely part o the squishiness you feel. Might need to add that additional resistance booster to accomodate.

Not sure about the diminishing returns, but my old loadout still seems reasonable in combat, reinforced prismatics+6xheavy duty boosters+1x Resistance augmented booster.

I'd love to test out some of the new grade5 thermal resistant boosters though.
