Resolution, resolution, resolution... HP’s next headset...

meh....unfortunately the article didn't say much...I was surprised that their customers weren't also requesting a greater FOV

Oculus better come out with or at least announce what's going on with their next GPU driven headset or I'm going to be really tempted to get this one....some concerns are:
1: fov
2: will it actually run on any hardware we have for gaming (marketed as"professional")
3: I feel like almost anyone I've talked to that has tried both designs has preferred the Sony ergonomics to rift, with the ring on top, surprised they're going with pretty much exactly the same thing as the rift.
4. How annoying is it going to be to run my oculus software on this? If oculus is going to go the portable hmd route I wish they'd at least make their store more open.

I'm surprised by the lack of FOV too...

Anyway, the Rift S is on the way (datamined from the store) and ReVive works really well with most WMRs, so I see no reason why this wouldn't.
I ahve both a Rift and a WMR; I prefer the Rift for many reasons, but the WMR is fine and dandy for what it does. I expect this HMD to be very good - but again, FOV people!

This is clearly enterprise focused. With over 30% more pixels than the Pimax it is going to take an insanely well optimised application built specifically for VR to run at native refresh rates without foveated rendering.

Unlike gaming, immersion is not at the top of the list for in-house engineering toolkits for virtual environments. Being able to resolve detail is far more important than field of view.

We are definitely starting to see a much more focused divergence in VR target demographics now.
