respawn after destruction not at originating station

Was killed last night on my way to Jameson.
I was in shinrarta, never made it to the station, yet my respawn was at Jameson instead of my originating station.
I was pretty pleased about that, but not sure why it occurred.
I always thought it was last station you visited you get respawned in.

I actually got destroyed last night too, and I got sent back to the last station I docked at. I don't think the system I inexplicably blew up in had a station though.

This was changed as part of the C&P overhaul in 3.0.

When the player is destroyed they are not necessarily returned to the last port they docked at, based on a prioritised list of rules

According to the new C&P you will either spawn at the nearest nonhostile Station, or if non is in the current system in the next available Station OR at the last position you were last docked at, in that order.

Define hostile. Diaguandri shows up as hostile to me, but I'm allied to its factions.

But to which power are you pledged? You can be perfectly clean, but pledged to one power and have a system marked as “Hostile” because it’s held by an opposing power.

Are you pledged to a power? As Powerpay have their own territories and if you venture into a rivalling Power, you are considered hostile, even if you are allied with all the factions in that system.

Also Federation, Empire and Alliance does not matter in any of this.

It has no effects on station respawn though. My Python got destroyed by a Diamondback NPC in a Federation system, upon which I respawned in a station of that Federation system.

That's a pretty good change, makes way more sense to imagine we are using escape pods that way.
