Newcomer / Intro Respond to NPCs in space

Sometimes I go to an unknown source and there is a NPC there that talks to me.
One wanted to me to help him. And another wanted me to abandon a mission.
I couldn't really do anything there. Should I reply to them? And if so, how?

You don't need to reply, they are there for mission changes. The missions are not quite right yet so basically just wait for them to finish and you will either have an updated mission or nothing will happen...just move on then.

There has been a suggestion that we will eventually have the ability to reply to NPCs with a set of scripted responses to which they will react appropriately. It would certainly improve the involvement with other ships and characters.

So, if you are interdicted by an NPC who asks for cargo you can say "**@#~# you!" and he will open fire. Or say "Ok" and while he waits for the goodies you then say "**@#~# you!" and blow him away.
