Rest in peace, CMDR Zakalwe Lagrange, (aka Carl aka Void Sun)

Amongst all the fun and glad times, sometimes it falls to the crew from Hutton and the ECM events to be the bearers of sad news.

For those of you who are veterans of the Elite Community, were at the launch - or who came and enjoyed ECM/Elitemeets in years past, including at the Redhurst in Glasgow, over in Bristol, or London for Frontier Expo in 2017, then the Hilton St Anne in Wokingham in 2018, or Manchester in 2019, Carl Agnew (aka Zakalwe Lagrange) was a mighty presence. In fact, many of the Elitemeets and ECM events would never have happened if it wasn't for his input.

CMDR Snos has let us know on behalf of Carl's family that sadly he passed away on Monday. He'd been unwell for a bit, and knew his final frameshift jump was coming at some point, but makes it no less of a shock to hear.

He was a very close friend to Snos, and Alvin - a fun part of the Hutton shenanigans, a titan when it came to working on the ECM and Elitemeet events and of course a comrade and drinking buddy to many here.

An accomplished Elite pilot, a VERY accomplished singer and an all round good egg, We will miss him.

Via Snos, we're sending much love to his wife Linda, and of course all his family and close friends on behalf of his buddies from Hutton, ECM and the wider Elite community.

Rest in peace, big fella.

For those who didn't venture beyond the safety/insanity of the forums, Carl lingered around these parts under the name 'Void Sun'. We spent many happy times together both within the Elite Dangerous community and beyond. I, personally, shall miss him tremendously and my world is that good deal emptier, lonelier, and duller for his passing but I shall never forget him.

Thank you to Vingtetun for writing a lovely tribute to him!

I did debate using that last picture in my original posts, but no-one really wants to see that bloke on the left do they? ;)

The glass we raised to absent friends during ECM this year was indeed quite poignant to remember those we've lost over the last few years.

We will of course be doing the same next year, and every year we run the event.
Dang. I mean I know we are on average an older audience, but that's not really a thing I think about.
The "accomplished singer" intrigues me - is there story to share?

Carl was a great bloke. He always had time for everyone and would always help you out in a pinch. Also brilliant at the Elite Miniatures Game too. He will be missed.

(and don’t forget the lovely Linda, who save the naked bride at one of the Lavecons).

He was a talented chorister with the Hallé Choral Academy (amongst other choirs) and could properly belt out a tune or two.

This is him, as part of the main choir (with Linda) giving a stunning rendition of Ode to Joy at the Bridgewater Hall.

You can see him in shot at the timecode below, doing his bit...
