Newcomer / Intro Restart?

I have been messing around and have really screwed ie lots of damage, out of fuel and drifting in space. Is there any way I can restart my game? I am playing in SOLO

Yes. You do mean completely start again, no rank, basic sidewinder and 1000cr? If so go to options and it should be in there to clear your commander and start again.

Is there a reason you can't just self destruct? Would save you losing experience, rank, credits.

Ha ha, no it's fine, I have none of the above. I have literally just started and I am getting used to it all. I have only just mastered docking, haven't traded, shot at anything or completed any missions yet. Will try and trade next. :)

How do you self destruct?

Once you've gained some experience, rank, and credits though, you would as Minkey noted, use self-destruct in the right-side HUD. You then have the option of starting over in a nearby station with a replacement ship (for the insurance cost) or a new basic sidewinder.

Without having shot at anything, I gotta ask... how did you get so damaged?

Right window, keyboard key 4, has a functions menu that is very useful things, amongst other things, at the bottom is self destruct, and reboot, reboot allows you to get your modules running at very low health so you can limp back to safety.
