Restless Leg Syndrome

I can't decide what I want to do. I can't decide on what ship I want. I can't decide any goals I wish to pursue. I have this general feeling of restlessness. I've traded in ships 7 times this week, from Vipers to Cutters, because I can't decide on what I want, or what I want to do. I've spent more than 500 hours in this game, and while that's not much for some, for me it is a long time. I don't want to necessarily step away for a while, I just want to figure out what I feel like doing, if anything.

I've tried every profession (mining, trading, smuggling, bounty hunting, assas-um-assasisi-assiass-killing people, pirating, exploring, tinkering with engineers, poking my nose into unidentified signal sources, sunbathing, moonlighting, and loitering. Some are fun, most are tedious for me, but I've dabbled in them all, and in others I did more than dabble. I think right now with the passenger missions ultra-nerfed (albeit temporarily), part of the fun has been negated. Runs to stations 400,000ls out making 90,000 credits just doesn't sound appealing, especially considering in a large vessel like the one I had earlier, much of that will be eaten up by the cost from various interdiction battles, and just long distance travel in Supercruise.

I did a quick 15,000 ly exploration tour earlier this week, late last week, and I got bored fast. I know it's unique for everyone, but for me, honking, waiting on my slow as hell computer to identify a planetary mass (seriously, guys, what computers are being used in these ships? ZX Spectrums?), and jumping to the next system is just not engaging enough for me, and becomes massively tedious very quickly.

Like I said, I guess I'm just restless. Part of me is waiting on Beyond, and what will come of it. Another part is tired of flying around and seeing nothing but blackness and bright spots, seeing the occasional text on the contact panel, the same repetitive text, I might add. Because those ships are the top 1%, you know.

Anyone else feel this way? Anyone have any suggestions? Ideas?

Any thoughts?

I feel you. Have the same problem. Took my DBX to Colonia for the first time ever. Longest trip I've ever done. Spotify helped out a lot but when finally arriving I decided to never do that trip again. Shamelessly 'suicided' my way back to the bubble. Maybe the urge will come to explore in the future.

As of know I've joined a Powerplay faction just to get my mitts on the 4th week gear. After that? No idea. A break maybe.

The Beta, when going live will probably inspire some actions.

There is a big problem with knowing that something better is just around the corner. I'm in the middle of the galaxy at the moment, and having played the beta I know that the easier engineering is going to make exploring a lot more pleasurable an experience.

Personally, I'm hypnotised by the black yonder, and I'm going to keep going.

You sound like you're just going to wait for Beyond, but if you can stand the download then I suggest you take part. It's not only for the altruistic reason of helping Frontier catch a few more bugs. You can do it to ensure that your particular set up works when the full update's released.

Sounds like a reasonable case of burn out you have there Cmdr. I guess we all want to see ED grow exponentially, even though - in the grand scheme of things - it's really still quite early days.

You don't mention SRV BASE jumping I notice but maybe you could see if you agree with my analysis of the standard power plant, fuel conversion rate of 22.2 grams hydrogen per MJ. Found that through physical experiment in game (I'm not going to tell you how exactly but mining lasers are a handy reference, 0.5MW each is a nice round number). There's always weapons testing on Thargoids and Powerplay / the BGS too; Somewhere a cruel corporate entity NEEDS to take power from the bleeding heart lefty locals, or vice versa of course. o7

OP, did you really try getting to know each of those ships?

I only ask because once upon a time I tried a Cutter in a beta (A graded and engineered) and swore I'd never fly one again. Anyway for various reasons I ranked up and got the Cutter and over the last couple of weeks have put a fair bit of time into it, including learning a whole new skill set and tactic in order to fly it in combat.

The same applies equally for quite a few of the ships you probably flashed through. I'm not talking necessarily about min-maxing them (of course you can) but really about optimising them for your play style.

Having said that holding out for a go in the Chieftain is viable too, I tried it in beta and IMO it's an amazing ship.

I think atleast in my case it's a strange case of worn-out-syndrome and overwhelmed-syndrome. I got lots of personal milestones and stuff I'd like to do but lack the motivation atm.

A healthy break from this beautiful game is perhaps the right move.

Just use a Conda with different internals and an ASP for exploration.
I am currently unlocking engineers/ enigneer these two ships a bit and went to see barnacle forrest + two thargoid structures and stole a probe infront of a slow poke cyclops.
I also rescued refugees from burning stations with my conda and now I'm up for unlocking shinrarta dezra by elite trading via passenger missions + filling my piggy bank and further engineers.
Then I'll buy all the AX modules and go cyclops slapping.
I also do mining sometimes and I also do hazraz bounty hunting.
Then I will go see the guardian ruins, too, as well as travel to colonia by neutron highway.
Just do whatever you feel like.

I'm hoping the live beta will add some inspiration, too.

I went ahead and subscribed to the beta. We'll see what happens. *crosses fingers*

The thing is, I have no interest in the Thargoids. I only had a passing knowledge of Elite before I started playing, and they don't interest me now. Nothing against folks who do like them or anything.

Yes, I spend a good deal of time in each ship, getting a feel for it, making runs, doing missions. Some fit well, others don't fit at all. I've been in every ship in the game, save for the Federal Corvette. That said, I eagerly await the Chieftain. I've been wanting to fly it since I first laid eyes on it.

That might be best, too. I'm not looking for a hiatus, but maybe it would be a good idea to refresh my enjoyment of the game. I mean, after 500 hours, anyone can get into a rut.

Anaconda's a good all around multi-role, but it can't land at outposts. For that, I usually have a Python. Of course, Pythons aren't nearly as robust as an Anaconda. I do passenger runs, and enjoy it. What I'm looking for is a heavily protected passenger ship that can land at outposts. Some of the ships that would be great for that are technically too large. For example, the Clipper can't land at outposts, even though it's surely small enough, save for the wingspan. That's kind of frustrating.

I am basically in the same situation, except that I have just under 2000 hrs playing. I have thought about starting from a new commander again, but when I think about the grind of getting my favorite ship back, the corvette, I just can't make myself do it. I have instead decided to just stop playing for a while and see how things progress. I haven't played now for about a month, but I still think about it often. I have to say that I miss the game and that it is my all time favorite, but I think taking a break is the best thing for me at this time.

Indeed. I hate that indecisive feeling. I ended up buying a Dolphin a few minutes ago, and outfitting it with a luxury cabin. I figure I can ferry a few people around in high tourism areas and see if I enjoy it.

I use long naps, and meds. :)

My suggestions are participate in a CG, fool around in the beta, or just take a short break from E.D.

Or be like me, get mad about something like how crew/wing means at *least* 50% of your XP gets taken away, and take an extended break while hoping Fdev's got time to listen in the middle of juggling all their plates.
