Restock a failed delivery mission

I noticed today after failing to deal with a hostile ship (and losing my delivery mission cargo in the process) that I cant resupply when going back to the source system i took the mission in. I even tried purchasing same commodity but the computer said "no".
Tried re-logging in but no diff.
Only option was to abandon mission. Surely we should be able to restock mission commodities out of our own pocket , in the scenario where you loose the cargo ?(as a sim, isnt that what we would do in the real world?)
Or have an option when repurchasing destroyed ship to retain cargo (at a cost) - after all, other elements such as materials and data are retained...

I don't think so. Part of the fun by doing missions is you might lose the cargo or die which means you lose that mission.

I think these missions generally have a caveat along the lines of "This cargo is unique to this mission, and if lost, cannot be replaced". If I'm thinking of a different mission type, then that caveat should also be listed on these ones as a courtesy.

I tend to assume that there's something special about the specific goods you're delivering, even if it's just a common item with a 400% mark-up that needs meticulous invoicing because it's being handled by a contractor or something.

Yeah they pay you to safely move a specific shipment of cargo from A to B. You work for them and if you fail on your job, well that's your problem. Imagine the Cargo as specialized stuff like a rare commodity, without having to create a new commodity type just for a mission. So the 3 Tons of Animal Meat, might be in reality be 3 Tons of Meat from a super unique Creature freshly hunted and prepared according to some cultural norm, so nothing you can just buy on the open market.
