Retro thrusters

I remember a piece of equipment called retro thrusters which suddenly accelerated your ship backwards at extreme velocity. Was great in dogfights and I hope we get something like this in ED.

I just can't remember if it was in Frontier or something else I played. If it was - bring it back, and if it wasn't - put it in this time round.

Pretty sure they were in Frontier. Would be pretty good here too!

I played Frontier for a long time, and don't remember them as an add on for your ships.

But I do know it was better to turn away from your destination to slow down quicker, so your main engines do the braking.

AFAIK, a Sidewinder can accelerate equally in all directions, even with flight assist on. Furthermore, boost is great for cornering. They might have nerfed turn rates, but with full power to engines you can pull 180s in a whiff.

Dont Know, IF Im right, but there is something like this. Its reverse thrusters, and work like a reverse gear in a Car. Its in the options.

I thought the blue arc was the setting for best turn rate? Am I missing something?

The retro thrusters were available in the Commodore Amiga version of ELITE. I remember them well.

They were extremely useful - but they were way over-powered I think.

That was it! It was on the Amiga.

It was literally like doing and emergency stop then afterburning backwards. They were great for getting that annoying ship off your tail and putting you in a position to get back in the fight.

These weren't in any of the previous versions of Elite I've played, there hasn't been any discussion of them in the Design Decision Forum as far as I can remember and they aren't in the Beta.

I think the chances of them being in the final game are slim to none. There is reverse thrust but it's the same power as forward thrust.
