If my memory servers in the other Elite games there was a wrap sheet (police report on you) that let you know all the naughty things you have done. Things like getting caught smuggling, killing innocents, firing on a station etc. I remember it being somewhat of a badge of dishonour as my wrap sheet grew to new lows.
I would love to see it return in more pure form, or in an expanded way to include other positive things you have achieved in the game too. Maybe track any charity work, lives saved, missions or awards earned in service of the militaries.
Could expand that even further with each career path having specific goals/achievements, that would encourage different gameplay opportunities or things to experience. Some maybe hidden, some might be immediately viewable to start you off.
Trader might have goals to complete a trade over 100ly, move all types of legal/illegal cargo, find and trade 5 different rare goods, loose a full cargo hold over 50 tonnes, fly all freight class ships, complete a trade run with no guns etc
Explorer might have goals to complete a journey over 1000ly, be first CMDR to explore a system, fully complete a detailed scan on every body in one system, find every star type know and explore it etc
Bounty Hunter might have goals to complete to kill an Elite pilot in every ship class, survive a fight with 10% or less hull left, survive a trap, switch factions from a friendly one to their competitor, interdict the same target 3 times in a row, catch a shield enabled ship with its shields down, kill multiple ships in a single battle etc
I think there could be some real creative ones that could be introduced that could provide some longer term things to strive for.
