Return to Dangerous

I originally played ED when it was released and spent a few months getting to Dangerous. I then stopped playing for 6ish years until last week. I have a couple of questions

1. I had what I thought was a fairly decent Vulture

But it seems to me my shields are being stripped super quick these days. It also seems that my laser is not as effective as I remember. Is it that I am now rubbish or are there changes that make me need to change my set up?

2. What are the biggest changes I should look for? (I am into Horizons so I get that, I am looking for the less obvious)

Thank You!

1. A little from column A, a little from column B. Kidding. It depends what you're doing, but you'll notice a huge difference with engineering.

2. Belugas. They will jam themselves in the mailslot.

Engineering is the difference.

Engineering is probably the difference you're finding OP, though personally I'm not sure it's as much of a requirement as many people will tell you it is. I might be saying that though as it happens I actually found unlocking the engineers to be quite a lot of fun. A few different activities involved in doing those unlocks but basically a second form of currency, alongside credits, is the materials (you get when you destroy a ship and there are other ways to find them, at signal sources, by scanning ships, mining or driving your SRV). The secret to avoiding grind I think is to pick up materials whenever you see them, while you also build you bank balance or while you play the game in other ways, do it alongside. Then you can engineer with what you picked up and if that engineering floats your boat, then you can get more serious with material hunting for top level upgrades. Meanwhile combat is a little bit harder than you remember ;)

cool bird, brings fond memories.

you can now engineer the powerplant and light it up like a christmas tree, which is quite some radical change allowing you to add some boosters, cells, etc. also, bi-weave (faster recharging) and prismatic (stronger, need unlocking) shields are available.

your beam should still be good against shields but can now be modded for more damage, more efficiency, dissipate heat, etc.

depends on what you want to do and personal preference, but engineers and fleet carriers are the big game changers. there's also cool stuff like ship launched fighters and thargoids. oh and exploring has been fleshed out and is a full ... glorified ball clicking mini-game. plus you can blow up rocks.

You could take a look at this Vulture's build, not too old, but... you will have to delve into some serious engineering, mate.

I don't claim this to be a good build - far from it - but you will notice the difference engineering makes...

Busy times ahead, I'd say ;)

Welcome back, by the way (y)

ETA: If you would like a helping hand gathering manufactured mats, or a lift out to the crystal shards sites, I'd be glad to oblige.

Welcome back! Woohoooo Vulture!
A Vulture really shines when engineered...lots of tutorials around for engineer unlocks, but like Bigmaec said, you're in for a grind :)
Go for Reactive Armour and a bi-weave shield with Shield Boosters in the utility slots.
My main Vulture is similar to Rat Catchers:
Tough as old boots and packs a punch!
Remember, more pips into System increases shield strength...4 pips = 2.5x more shield. So when you're under fire put pips into Sys.

The nicest thing is that folk will post their 'favourite' build, and I can steal compare theirs too...
:D I always love seeing how other people build their ships...one of the best things about ED is the customization available for builds. Sod META!
And once you unlocked all the things, you can try this build. It's fun, albeit a bit eccentric.
Are you not missing some SCBs from that build???

SCBs? What for? I usually kill things before they bring my shields down. The trick is in flying behind/on top of them and picking your targets carefully, like no strong wings or only attacking wings when they are busy fighting someone else. Besides, I need my heatsinks to do damage for longer when I'm in a sweet spot.

I get that...but why the heat sinks?

Does it get hot?
Over here from May through October nowadays.

How 'bout you?

As to the OP, the Vulture was one of my go to ships pre-engineering. Killed many an NPC, then it was replaced by the FAS, also good back then, great fun. It did have a tendency to fry up.
