Return To Elite

So after taking about a year off, I have decided to return to Elite. So far its fun. Everything is fresh and new again. Forgot how to fly my ship and had to rebind all my keys again..lol. Guess I will stay in my DBS for some time before I get back in my Cutter...lol. No need to relearn on that expensive whale of a ship. Looking forward to meeting everyone again. Quick question. Is open still a barren wasteland?

Thanks CMDR's and see you in the black.

Welcome Back!

YAY!

It's busy around the CGs, Alien Ruins, Colonia and not so much Lave, Eravate as it was before.
Travel in Hyperspace around Maia and get . . . . . suprised :)

I am pretty sure I know what the surprise is... but I might still need to try it for myself. Going to work on the Engineers so I can get back into the PvP scene. I am pretty sure my A rated DBS would get torn apart in a fight now.

Quince is a CG that's on now and traders need protection from the usual gang of maniacs.
You cordially invited to spread some righteous karma on them.
I'm in the black FAS: all PAs and heatsinks.
FD have added Military Slots to some ships Core Internals, where you can put hull and/or mod reinforcements.
Missiles have had a tiny buff I believe.
Game update is arriving the week of April 10 with lots of fixes plus Commander Creator and a new Camera.

Thanks, I am actually glad the maniacs are back. It means the traders are back too. At least that is what I hope. I got tired of trading alone. No pirates, maniacs or traders. The hull reinforcements I knew about . I noticed they added module reinforcement, which is nice. Going ot have to get murdered about a dozen times before I figure out the new Meta and how it all works together. That's why I am working on the Engineers right now. Engineer the carpe diem out of a DBS and I can afford to get killed left and right. It's how I learned before. When the rebuy is cheap your not afraid to take chances and experiment. Then take what I learn to the more expensive ships.

Welcome back!

Open is currently quite barren except near CGs and other hot spots, but still very quiet due to the 2.3 beta.
Given another week (or Soon™), 2.3 will drop and everyone will be floating around making their HoloMe. :p

My impression of how open has changed in the "about a year" you refer to:

Cmdrs are still a bit thin on the ground except at the usual hotspots.
Yes, at those hotspots there are still the maniacs but encounters with "decent PvPers" seem to be a little more common than they used to be too?
The maniacs are even more likely to logoffski at the first hint of anything that might be a combat loadout sniffing at their emissions trail. The lulzbunnies have become even lulzier. Q-shipping them is fun but they still logoffski before their shields go down.
The "decent PvPers" have got better at it and optimized their loadouts even more. They've become harder to escape in a non-combat build and anything BUT a min/maxed PvP loadout will find them extremely difficult to take on if anything other than "escaping" is your goal. The gulf in survivability between PvP-combat builds and everything else has grown some.

Thanks. I am looking forward to rejoining the PvP ranks.. whether that is PvP fighter v fighter or fighter v trader. always had a blast either way. You will always have those that cannot stomach a fair fight. but that is the way of the online gaming world. Window warriors at every turn.

Heck, a "fair fight" is otherwise known as a "strategic error"

I build my traders to unload buckets of hurt on NPCs and run like a bad paint job if a cmdr in a combat build takes an interest. Now, if that cmdr is fitted for piracy and not completely min/maxed for pewpew I might take 'em on in one of my stronger ships but mostly I make it through those hotspots by a combination of strategically defensive flying and a yellow streak a mile wide :) If I'm in the mood to go looking for trouble, I've a vulture for that....
