return to sol

hi guys, last night i did the trip from my spawn in imperial space as a trader with a cobra to sol.

took me roughly 4-5 hours and i twitched the whole thing with only a single crash for the whole episode (may have been caused by me messing about getting used to twitch as i had never used it before).

an amazing experience with a few interdictions and a few escapes, unregistered stations, brown dwarfs, fuel scoops and many many hairy manual docks.

with all the negative comments and threads on the forums i just wanted to say here is one very happy commander.
i played elite c64 for years as a kid and this really is the game i dreamed of with content that i could never have imagined was possible!

hats off to frontier and i cannot wait for release!!

cmdr two quiet suns

Heheh, I just logged off for the night in Wolf 359. Knew if I made that last jump, I'd not get any sleep - it's already 3:24 AM.

So... tomorrow should make for a special sunrise.

the best bit was that i was nearly out of credits/fuel and made a series of disastrous purchases and crashes along the way. when i arrived i had no money, no fuel and no cargo but was welcomed with a 12k / 2ly mission available and made 25k with a few jumps around sol. looking forward to logging back in also!

couldnt find a docking computer though?

Sol was a HUGE Disapointment for me. Planets like Jupiter, Saturn or Venus looking realy realy bad and didnt come close to the original Planets (except Earth, wich looks ok).

I realy hope this is not FD´s final Version of SOL!

I was there at Barnard's Star. Single-H in my tank.

I was reverent about this. I chorded the buttons to bring up my local group, selected Sol as my destination.

I had The Nerves. I had no idea what the Frontier Team had done with old father Sol's status. Was Earth just a blackened, radioactive cinder? Had they gone the Cynic's Path?

Frameshift Drive Charging.... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Engage.

Thwomp. ROAR hiss HOWL roar SIZZLE howl KERTHWOMPPPPP

Hallo, Old Father Sol.... up and right and let's look around.... hello, lovelies. Mercury, Venus.... Earth. <thumbs Target Ahead and rolls the throttle into Blue>

Deep breaths, Hennessy. Deep breaths. Eight or so light minutes until we see what's up.... we're here. We're home. We're looking at Sagan's Pale Blue Dot.

Oh ghod, please let it still be there.

OH MY SWEET WORLDS YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!

<Safe Disengage>

I sat there, watching her turn below me. As the UK came past, I blew a kiss at my ex-wife.

I looked at the commerce swarming around Earth-orbit space and was torn between laughter and happy tears. I chose to dock first at Abraham Lincoln station. Trivia note! The Emancipation Proclamation was one of Abe Lincoln's executive orders. Howboutdat?

This was making me painfully happy

I blew out of Lincoln with a few tonnes for Barnard's Star. Then I turned my eyes a quarter million miles away at that eensy grey orb. The Moon.

Framshift Drive Charging.

I was moved to tears. What our crazy mad species had travelled in three days, in an oversized Coke can full of bad designs, fear, hope and Cold War Paranoia, I zapped across in under a minute. I took some photos. Tycho's rays are so beautiful.

And I docked at the station there, to let the wracking waves of emotion subside.

My Ghods, FD Devs. My Gh0ds Below.

Thank you. Thank you so very, very much for this.

I know I'll never walk on the Moon.

But at least ... now...

Thank you.

I need to travel around Sol a bit more (I was quickly distracted by a delivery mission and left the place..), but I was hoping for a lot of custom work besides the planet textures. Maybe something like the concept artwork below. So a bit disappointed so far I guess, maybe it'll improve.
