Cdr Voorheez returns to the Black
So I returned from the Distant Worlds expedition back in May 3302 with a head full of memories a pocket full of credits and a hard earned decal I still wear as a badge of honour.
This was all pre 2.1. Pre pimped jump ranges and mysterious engineers. DW was hard work and time consuming, travelling 150kly(+) took its toil on me and I took a break from the call of the deep deep black and quietly concentrated on reestablishing myself in occupied space. I became a bubble Commander again.
I embraced 2.1, built up rep with the engineers, got a collection of obscenely pimped FSDs and continued to make credits, earn rep, and build rank.
I attained commissioned rank in both Imperial and Federal Navies, kept politically neutral and avoided unwanted attention.
But something was lacking, and I knew I would return to the deep void at some point.
But not before I exploited a little known star system called Sothis.
Then 2.2 dropped and suddenly I saw an opportunity to explore again. I bought a first class passenger cabin for my Anaconda, the TERRA NOVA, veteran of DW and unsullied from destruction since her return, employed a female crew member Guadeloupe Soren (Aka "G"), installed a fighter bay with a beam laser armed Tiapan, painted my SRV bright yellow and went on search for rich passengers looking for a well paying adventure.
My Elite Exploration rank and DW fame brought me many potential customers but I was drawn by money and a pretty, single (rich) passenger offered me 16 million credits for a 10kly round trip: Angelique De Lacy, single, rich, great in the sack.
My Anaconda had a 50(52)ly range fully equipped and passenger ready with full fighter support and planetary exploration capability, so I loaded up supplies, sent "G" on leave and set off. Angelique gave me a three week window for completion. Her bio was laid back, neutral and a low priority target. Easy money, I plotted my route taking into consideration the new Colonia outposts en route to our passenger destination and left the bright lights of Jameson Memorial station behind us.
Two days into the journey we are now resting at Hillary station outpost. We have explored planets, flown low over alien surfaces, raced through canyons and trusted my ships superb AI to take care of my ship, which she has done brilliantly. SRV/Fighter combo works so well for explorers and is without a doubt the way I will be exploring in the future. My Anaconda could have more range stripped but 50ly with a fully working fully fitted Anaconda is still pretty good.
Loving 2.2: all features are perfectly implemented and it's for me back into the immersion aspect of exploration. Without immersion I'm turned off, luckily I'm turned on by exploration again post 2.2.
