Returning Commander- and FC jump times . . .

Greetings. Been some 42 months since I last played. Had some folks with new interest ask to join. I find I'm in the middle of nowhere as it was close to the last event I partook. However, I'm seeing 1.25 hour jump times for my FC. Since we're well past launch, and I can only presume player count is quite down, what's with these incredibly long jump times and cooldowns?! It sort of disenfranchises my desire to want to jump back in. Looking forward to your replies, maybe even encouragement. :)

Prior to Thursday of last week, carrier jump times were typically the normal 15 minutes, with occasional longer ones but generally within 20. Thursday saw what was arguably the single most impactful update since the early stages of the Thargoid war. Simultaneously a new exploration ship was released for (ARX) early access, and a new Powerplay 2.0 system was released for all players. So, most likely, there is just a much larger than normal number of players are currently both actively playing and repositioning their assets.

Edit: indeed, take a look at the concurrent Steam player count chart. The load is roughly double the normal right now on Steam.

How does playercount influence carrier jump times? Honestly curious to know, since I don't own a FC yet.

How does jumping work anyway? Can I jump with the FC or can I just tell it to go places?

It doesn't. But everyone and their grandmother wanting to jump their carrier right after the update goes live does.

You can jump with your carrier, either sitting in your ship in the hangar, or sitting in your chair on the bridge.

But why does the first answer to the OP suggest that that jump times are up to 1.25 hours because if so many people playing right now? Or did I get that completely wrong?

many players plus new powerplay equals many carrier jumps, I guess. But it's not the player count, it's the players trying to jump their carriers after the new content got released.

Bingo!

So cooldown on jumps is still 15 minutes normally? Sorry for asking dumb questions, I only recently got back into the game and so much has changed.

You can jump the carrier from the cockpit of your ship whether it is on the carrier or not, or you can do it from the bridge of the carrier.

When you plot a jump the minimum time it will take to start the jump is 15 minutes if there is a lot of activity on the carrier jump servers that time gets extended to ensure that all the stuff being carried by your carrier arrives at the same place as your carrier and not somewhere else or owned by someone else. The time can extend to around two hours before you get a message that says no jump slots available.

The cooldown after the carrier arrives is always 5 minutes.

You can still get on and off your carrier and do stuff on board it until 5 minutes or so before the jump time.

I just made it to the first waypoint towards Colonia. Once I got there, I called in the carrier. 1 H 7 M.... Oh well, it feels like bedtime anyways. (Stupid US time change shenanigans)

This should ease up once most have found a good new home for their carriers. I'm sure lots of commanders discovered their carrier will be in enemy space if they pledge right away. It's better to move it, and then pledge.

Edit: I stayed up, and my carrier was waiting when I logged back in. Only 44 waypoints to go.

You don't need to be on the carrier to jump it. Even if you're in supercruise in an uninhabited system, just go to "Carrier Management" on the right screen (typically the #4 key). Highlight the up arrow that's to the left of "Modules" and it'll be in the center of the screen.

Because a lot pf players who own carriers are on at the moment and jumping carriers around a lot. More people playing mean more people with carriers playing, that's how it works.

It’s like all those “abandoned” carriers people constantly whine about weren’t quite so abandoned.
Yep, my main's carrier orbited planet Slough in Vesper-M4 for well over six months (possibly over a year). Docking permissions were set to friends only, so I'm sure it appeared abandoned. Now that all preparations are finally complete, it's doubtful that carrier will be seen in the bubble for a long time.

Yeah mine has been in Laksak for a while because it is handy for what I am doing and I have all rep maxed out, so if I decide to take a break and do some missions I get the best choices in mats and missions.
