Ships Returning commander - help me outfit my aspX please

Hi,
I played quite a bit several years ago, but moved on to other games, but never forgot the itch ED gave me, so I came back and remember nothing!

I have an AspX, with no modules (sold everything before I quit) and around 22million credits.

I like to some medium trading, and light combat/bounty hunting.

Could someone please tell me how I should fit out my ship for around 20 million credits, to have large cargo space, good jump range, but be able to defend myself against weaker bad guys.

Thanks a lot :)

p.s. I don't understand engineers - it was that long ago I played. Are they factions you have to grind a lot that give you upgrades right? Also is it worth having an SRV in your ship? Any advantages to not fitting one?

Thanks! :)

I would start with something like this for trading. The fuel scoop is there just for safety, try to do trading within your ship's range. You will not be defending yourself against bad guys, you will be running away. When you have built up more capital you can start thinking about making a more dedicated combat build.

Engineers are located at surface bases. They each have certain requirements to unlock and once you have done that you can spend different materials to upgrade your modules. Even if you are not going to heavily engineer your ships, I would recommend that you at least unlock the initial engineers to get upgrades to your FSD and thrusters. It helps a lot.

Also is it worth having an SRV in your ship? Any advantages to not fitting one?
If you want to drive around on planetary surfaces, you need one. If you are not planning to do that, you don't.

Ok thanks a lot for the build. So I don't want any hardpoints or utility mounts at all? No chaff or scanners or whatnot? Is the asp the best ship I can afford for trading runs or is there something bigger? e.g a type 7? cheers!

You can throw in some shield boosters for defence or heat sink launchers just in case.
The type-7 would be a better cargo hauler, but just the stock type-7 sells at 17M and you want to keep something in case you need to rebuy.

The Asp X makes a very good rares trader. If I'm just doing back and forth trading I usually ditch the scoop, you generally don't need it as you can easily do 3 or 4 jumps on a single tank and that should be plenty

There's guides online for rares loops, you'll need the scoop for that.

Basing yourself in an extraction system in boom and getting allied with the factions can lead to some very well paying delivery missions. Failing that there's the classic loop you can use - Extraction to refinery to high tech to agricultural then back to your starter extraction system - with that you can usually turn a decent profit on every leg but takes a bit of finding with the galaxy map.

Once you start unlocking some engineers and their upgrades you can gradually start building your aspX towards this direction (perhaps) to keep on increasing its capabilities until you eventually may replace it with a bigger ship. https://s.orbis.zone/6zab or this https://s.orbis.zone/6zaf if you unlock prismatic shields also at some point and want a bit more cargo space.

Can't you just dig up diamonds and buy what he wants.
