Returning to base

So, I had to ask myself a stern question today - Why exactly am I 'exploring' out here in the middle of nothing?

1) To find mysterious things?
2) Kudos of finding something no-one has ever found before?
3) Relaxation and enjoyment?
4) Money?
5) Ticking a box?

And how do I answer myself, I ask myself?

1). Yeah that would be good, but there really isn't that much 'mystery' to find as far as I can see. I've found notable stellar phenomenon, weird geological formations and odd alien life - and well, that's pretty much it for ED isn't it? Other than perhaps odd stellar formations - which tbh don't hold much appeal to me.
2). Yeah - done that a few thousand times. There are plenty of systems and planets out there with 'Discovered and mapped by' next to my name.
3). Yeah - nah. More frustrating tbh.
4). Certainly not.
5.). Box ticked.

So, I've deiced to quit for now and head back. I managed to get 26,000ly from sol and the farthest south of galactic pole - nice. There are only two things I want to do now - Colonia and Sag A. So I'm headed off there and then either Colonia for a while, or home (you know I still haven't visited Sol!). There are many other boxes I would like to tick for now.

So my great exploration is cancelled for now due to boredom - perhaps exploration isn't for me but I feel like I honestly gave it a try and learnt a few things in doing so.

Now then - onto other things.

My next aim is to see how fast I can make the distance to SAG A...I think I'm about 40,000 ly out (26,000 to Colonia so not sure how far from there?? not in front of my game right now.)

I totally understand. Even the most dedicated explorer will reach a point where it doesn't hold the same appeal anymore. If it's not fun anymore, then it's time to stop.
