Returning to the game - PC 2018 - Where do we go from here?

Same here, but not exactly the same as RCT3. I like the art design of PC better for most everything. RCT3 has better water than PC.

Very true. I also liked the way you can manipulate the terrain in RCT3. It came in handy for making underground rides. I also loved the flat rides selection in RCT3. Sure a few came with the expansion packs, but they really delivered. I can only hope Frontier listens to the fans and make a major update... even if the update happens later in the year.

"Years later"
It's been out for 18 months...

I first played Planet Coaster in March of 2016, that makes it over 26 months old for anybody who played during alpha... just because its "labelled" or marketed as being released in November, doesn't change the fact that it was actually "publicly" released and was playable all summer of 2016... and no the game was not "finished" in November because well, they are still working on it [cool]

Sometimes those with various complaints (which may or may not be valid) like to exaggerate to make it seem like it's a bigger issue in general than it really is. A number of posters have done it and continue to do so. It seems like the majority of the OP has been well written but the occasional comment (in this and other threads) where they've overstated things for effect makes it harder to take them seriously in my opinion. Whether this is intentional or not I really don't know.

Kinda picked up on the exaggeration. Even at 26 months, the term "years" seems to indicate a much longer period. There hasn't been a span of much longer than 2 months, and usually much shorter, without new content. The OP presents the game like it's end of life, or there isn't continuous support. In reality, the company just switched buildings, which can take awhile to get back to being productive, and STILL managed to put out a fairly large update. The recent newsletter hinted at another upcoming update. I can't remember the last age I was where I considered 2 years to be a long time, let alone 2 months. Relax OP, time flys and I'm positive there will be many more updates to come.

I was only being accurately specific, however I was not in agreement with the OP [wink]

in the world of gaming, 26 months is actually a long time for a game to still receive updates or DLC, at least in my experience, most games are dead (or no longer popular) within a year or two, then they go into the "bargain bin" or get a decrease in price, but PlanCo is unique in that sense

If we look at RCT3, it was obviously made a long time ago, but after Frontier finished the second expansion they were done with the game and moved on to other things. RCT3 only had 1 years-worth of updates and add-ons. And most other genres (shooters, sports, etc) get new full sequels just about every year... just look at how Atari is continuing to make new theme park games, I bet we see something that can compete with PlanCo in another year, especially if the devs can't fix a lot of the flaws

I'm not sure if Its me, but I didn't receive a newsletter since 20-1-2018.
Maybe I'm unsubscribed without knowing?

Is there a way of viewing them online without subscribing?

Hey there folks! Welcome to the latest Planet Coaster newsletter.

While our developers are busy working on some exciting Planet Coaster goodness, we'll be shining a big spotlight on some of our wonderful content creators from across the internet!

Enjoy!

STAR CREATOR
Our first featured content creator this week is R3dDragon who streams every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 5PM BST. He runs his channel with his son Tureebluh, who gave Planet Coaster to R3d as a Christmas present.

R3d loves to find unique and interesting community creations and always checks out every detail and flair.
As well as streaming, R3dDragon makes fantastic workshop creations, which are frequently added to Steam. R3d’s most recent creations are a series of Nordic-themed facilities, but he’s got a lot of different styles of items in his expansive workshop (vehicles are his speciality!) He has even compiled a few workshop collections, which are a perfect way to start building your park from a blank canvas.

R3dDragon's Twitch Channel and Steam Workshop are definitely worth subscribing to and we can't wait to see what comes next!

On Wednesday, Community Managers Ed and Will showcased some community creations in Workshop Wonderland. This week they looked at creations that fit within the theme of Norse Mythology and Vikings!

Earlier in the week, Will continued the career mode in Planet Coaster and finally completed the Good Gully Miss Molly challenge.

I would tell you to update your parks with the new midway games expansion, to fill in all of those dead spots in between sections of your park. Oh wait, they still have yet to implement midway games.

You are stuck in the early 2000's. Things don't work like that anymore. it used to be rare when a game would last even months after its release. Now games, especially games like this one, the simulation games, are made to last years and years and years. You can thank SimCity 4 and the Sims 3 for that, hell, even Roller Coaster Tycoon 3(if you need a genre specific title). Cities Skylines is receiving a content expansion VERY soon, now more than 3 years after its original release.

Heck, you want an extreme example of a game receiving content updates? Look no further than World of Warcraft, which originally released in 2007, ELEVEN YEARS ago, and still getting regular content updates to this very day. "Yeah, but that is World of Warcraft!", Yeah, but you brought up games outside of the sim genre yourself, mentioning "(shooters, sports, etc)", kinda shot yourself in the foot with that one. Oh, and World of Warcraft is only one of VERY many MMOs that receiving regular content updates for many years beyond just one or two, Star Trek Online, Perfect World International etc etc.

Games receiving content updates beyond two years is not uncommon... It could be argued, even, that it is the normal now. Welcome to 2018!

Although it is more common now for games to be supported for a long time, 26 months without barely any acknowledgement and fixes for most of the major problems the game has had since launch is still a pretty long time. :S

More and more games are "game as a service", so a lot of games gets supported for very long time these days. PC is not an exception. And it´s not because Frontiers are so kind, but because they want to earn as much money as possible. As long as this approach they took with PC works, we won´t see major issues fixed I´m afraid. They absolutely have no reason to do that.

Did you miss how I said that "RCT3 is relatively old"... but the really important question to ask yourself would be; relative to whom?

games, are made to last years and years and years. You can thank SimCity 4 and the Sims 3 for that, hell, even even Roller Coaster Tycoon 3(if you need a genre specific title).
lol yeah I'm aware that games can be played or even purchased years after being released, I still play many oldschool games. However, you apparently missed the part where I said "not including custom/mods" as I was talking specifically about the development process... oh and where did I use the word "every single game ever" ...I said most games in a general sense, and when I said "dead" i meant as in a loss of peak sales like from a business perspective, not that the game is buried and forgotten... understand?

Cities Skylines is receiving a content expansion VERY soon, now more than 3 years after its original release.
I'm not going to disagree with you that yes, there are some games that have extended development life, but it is uncommon

MMO with monthly subscription and a dozen expansions is a very very rare exception [wacky] oh and WoW was released in 2004 btw ;)

You would have sounded a lot smarter if you mentioned how many years Rockstar spends developing games like GTA5 or RDR2... but then we would have to discuss how crappy micro-transactions have ruined the industry as a whole, which is exactly the problem with many games today... wanna discuss how crappy DLC pricing is, or you going to defend the industry and state the obvious that people need to get paid ...lol and I'm stuck in the past?

Thats exactly why PlanCo has been littered with crappy microtransactions, its called milking the cow

Games receiving content updates beyond two years is not uncommon... It could be argued, even, that it is the normal now. Welcome to 2018!
I was not the one arguing about how long a game should or could be in development... I am simply stating that this game has been out for over 2 years and it is a shame that we have not received a larger expansion a la RCT3 soaked... have you ever read any of my other posts outside of this thread? or are you just looking to argue [haha]

anyway, I wasn't trying to debate anything here... just stating that PlanCo is in fact over 2 years old and thus IMO is no longer classified in the "new" section of games IMO. if the team decides to release a big expansion in the next year, then that would be awesome!! thank you [up]
