Hello all,
My first post here, and I thought I'd see if I could get away with something I haven't seen anyone else try here - though maybe there's a reason for that. I've checked the forum rules. This feels like a very grey area.
The story goes like this:
I'm minding my own business in my fairly high-spec'd Cobra in the Komovoy system at the nav beacon, scanning for NPCs with bounties. There were slim pickings really, with two other commanders in the vicinity, so I was idling around waiting for a some more NPCs to turn up. I don't tend to scan commanders for bounties as they're still more trouble than they're worth, in my book. After a few minutes I had a warning that my shields had failed. I hadn't noticed as I was staring at the star and she (the ships computer) neglected to tell me I was under attack. Must have been bored herself, and off doing something more interesting like calculating Pi, or knitting.
Anyway, I selected the closest enemy to get their name and managed to SC out of there before there was too much damage to my hull, but this commander got me down to about 70-odd%. I went off, got repaired and did some hunting elsewhere for an hour. I quite like Komovoy for hunting, so I decided to head back there and see if the area was clear of the commander. It didn't take many minutes floating around to find that he was still there. I decided while he wasn't looking to take a pop at him. Seemed only fair.
Now, I don't know the relative strengths of all the ships in Elite, so wasn't really sure if I was actually much of a match against him in his Viper. I performed a strafing run on him, hit him with pulse lasers, a beam laser and a couple of rockets and disappeared back into SC, only to drop back out about 30km away. I didn't really do much more than dent his shields, but it was satisfying if nothing else. I turned round and went back to hit him with another strafing run. Actually, I got a couple of goes at him, but he saw me coming and also got a couple back. Then another commander in a Python, who had been hanging around in the background also had a pop at me. Lost shields and got more hull damage. They might have been friends (stands a good chance), or the newcomer believed the other guy was a victim of my childishness and thought it their duty to intervene.
So, I found myself totally outgunned a second time and disappeared into SC again. The first commander was obviously role-playing a scoundrel, so I'm role-playing a commander who isn't above paying others more capable to do their dirty work. I'm prepared to dump cargo just outside a station, that you should be able to sell back to the station for at least the amounts below, after the job is done.
Bounty would be as follows:
Commander 1 - the instigator
Commander 2 - the follower
1 - 25kCr
2 - 5kCr
1+2 in the same session - 60kCr (this might take me a couple of runs in and out of the station)
It might also help to know they were playing between midnight and 1am GMT on Sunday morning. I would likely have to meet up with the winner sometime between 8-10pm GMT on a weekday, as that's usually when I'm online.
Here's how it'll work, because in the interests of fairness, I don't want to put these other commanders off playing, even though they started it! ;-)
In the interests of fairness, I'm specifying some conditions:
If it helps, I know most modern Nvidia graphics cards have ShadowPlay in the drivers for video capture, saves you installing anything else if you haven't already. I use mine like a dashboard cam.
Any takers?
Mike

Here's how it'll work, because in the interests of fairness, I don't want to put these other commanders off playing, even though they started it! ;-)
- You sign up for the job by DM'ing me and including your own commander name so I can recognise you.
- I will DM you back with the commanders' names - which you must keep private as per forum rules. (I don't want to set the whole universe against them.)
- You navigate to the system in question
- Capture the destruction of the commander(s) on video.
- Post the video back to a Onedrive folder I'll give you access to. (Avoid naming and shaming with public videos, so keep it private to you and me only. I don’t want to see these videos anywhere else. Bounty is forfeit if I should happen to find the videos elsewhere.)
- I'll check the video. If it's the first I find acceptable, I'll DM you back a location, date and time (GMT), and will meet you outside with enough cargo that if you went back into the station straight after me, selling it back to the station should give you at least and as close to the bounty as I can get. Take it elsewhere if you think you can get a better price.
- After delivery, I'd be interested if you posted back to this thread your thoughts on this bounty hunt. Did I keep my word etc etc.
- Keep checking back to this thread for other things. For example, if it gets out of hand, I'll terminate the bounty early.
- Maximum time to claim the bounty is one week from posting this. Anything afterwards doesn't count.
In the interests of fairness, I'm specifying some conditions:
- This is open to the first five people to DM me. Anybody who gets the commanders names by other means, and scores a kill, will not get the bounty.
- You need to capture both the kill, the system name you were in and your commander's name, in the same video. Select the star as the destination or something after the kill, and the right-hand status/reputation window for your name. I want to be sure it's you, no subcontracting.
- Kills outside Komovoy won't count, even if the fight started there.
- If it's obviously a clean kill, (you weren't competing with anyone else for it) then you'll get the goods provided you're the first person to send me a clean-kill video.
- If it obviously wasn't a clean kill, it’s debatable whether you actually scored the killing shot, and someone else sends me a video of the same attack from the other perspective, then the owner of the video that shows them scoring the most damage will win.
- Two kill videos per hunter at the most will be accepted. That is either commander 1 and/or 2 at different times, or one where you kill both close together.
- Don't grief me or the commanders just because I said your video wasn't a clean enough kill and someone else got it.
- I'm trying to keep this fun for potential bounty hunters, and easy for the two commanders if they get wind of this and want to avoid being hunted for a week.
- Moderators might also demand I drop this. If they do, consider this dropped.
- My word is final.
- Moderators word is more final!
- And finally, if you think it's worth finding the desperados and negotiating to kill them for a cut, you better make the video look good! Though I can't imagine what I'm offering would cover their insurance…
If it helps, I know most modern Nvidia graphics cards have ShadowPlay in the drivers for video capture, saves you installing anything else if you haven't already. I use mine like a dashboard cam.
Any takers?
