Reverski ... explorer style

Well cmdrs, I just had to experience the embarrassment of my own galactic mini retreat.

I set out deep into the black in my explorer Phantom, with a 65lyr jump range and enough mats for 40+ fsd 100% injections feeling confident.

Tried to manually plot a route between two star arms, and after hours and hours and hours deep in the galaxy map, and my ship getting deeper and deeper into nothingness, I realised I was going to end up stranded and had to back my way out by filtering on visited stars and literally retracing my steps.

Just made it back to denser stars by the skin of my teeth. Heading home to the bubble now with my tail between my legs and a 20k+ lyr journey ahead of me and space sickness setting in. If I ever attempt this again, I'll be looking to carry about 4x the fsd injection mats!

Any cmdrs out there care to share their own experiences doing this whether successful or otherwise?

Before you go bubble-wards, have you thought about doing the arm crossing somewhere else? It literally is not possible to cross between the Perseus and Outer Arm if you are out towards the end of the Perseus Arm, for example - it is easier a little further back, in this case, the Skull and Crossbones nebula provides a bridge, but there are others.

You should be pleased with yourself for following your visited stars route back into safe territory; it can easily be a maze on the edges, especially if you are in danger of going beyond your jumponium mat reserves :)

Thanks cmdr,
Yes, I did think of crossing at another point but I have used up most of my jumponium, and I've been out here for a good while now and I'm getting desperate to see a station!
I will definitely be venturing out again, but next time I am going to plan ahead more and make sure I follow the star arms.

I'm with Spaceman Si on this one, nice work getting back out and no reason for shame! Sounds like a well executed withdraw from a brave and adventurous journey. I'm currently traveling as low from the plane as I can maintain, and am making sure every course I plot ends at a neutron so I can get out if I stray too far from other stars. Haven't been stranded yet.

Thanks cmdr,
I haven't tried neutron boosting yet, it's on my to-do list. I was planning on buying a cheap sidey to practice with near to the bubble, think I will make sure I do that before my next adventure.
