Reviews are coming in

So far from what I've seen the game is doing well in the reviews.
Eurogamer 8/10
Metacritic 4/5
And norwegian :) newspaper Dagbladet 5/6.

This is really promising. Let's just hope the game sells really well now, so the devs can afford to keep working on it. We all want to see the planetary landings/flight, walking in ships/stations, npcs, and tons of improvements to exploration / missions and such :D

The 'sell well' it's a double edged sword: the more it sells the more you gonna get people coming here to scream that the game is 'backward' and we have already enough... special cases

So let's hope it sells well AND people read about it BEFORE buying it

But isn't that the main purpose of reviews? Because all the reviews I've read mention that it's not an instant gratification game and has a quite different feel about it than most other games. They only recommend buying it, if you can live with that.

In its current state, it's a game with a lot of soul but very little personality. Just as the endless quest to acquire and consume in real life ultimately rings hollow, so too does Elite's upwardly mobile trajectory.
Yet they still give 8/10. I do worry that the next 2 years development is already priced in to the scores, and this will result in more disappointment in the short term.

Lol sorry no disrespect but the world is full of people who just buy a game because they see the score and then proceed to troll the forums to try turning it into what they want.

I mean already now we have people asking for autopilot and other stuff

Be positive, and they turn negative. Be negative, and you get more negativity, in an effort to turn two times the negative, into a positive somehow. Sorcery if you ask me.

It is at any rate a good sign, in the hopes that the expansions we... certainly should invest in, at some point in time... will be made. :)

Scores out of ten are pointless , parden the pun. A score is subjective only , Id give this game 10/10 because it has so much potential which will be implamented with alacrity. How do I know this ? Because Ive played since beta 1 and the game has lept in development with each cycle. FD are not just any old developer, they build this game with love, driven by the god himself of space games .

People can only emulate David Brabam's vision of space sims, they can never match it . He will drive this game to the sims maximum potential.

Im with most here , dont dumb the game down for quick fix players , IMHO players who want a quick fix should be guided to see that ED is an experience not a race . Its tough and harsh sometimes , yes , but thats how the game should be . This is not WOW or counter strike. Please dont turn it into it.

Pretty nice scores, but then again - reviews are something I never read for anything (except as afterthought when someone's post peaks my curiosity), other people might do though. In general about reviews though: any higher scores than "90% good" for any product, and it makes me think the reviewer got pre-paid for a good review.

Clearly the game has a lot of evolving to do.
The potential is there of course for greatness and I will be playing as the game gets developed.

Please Mr Braben, don't listen to the people who can't respect others and want everything to be the same dumbed down crap!

More players can only add to the experience...I would like to see some focus on grouping though so that these people will have equal opportunity to enjoy both sides of ED ie. to run with the pack and or to fly solo. To date I have been unable to test the Multiplayer aspects of this game due to RL but I have seen videos and I know that it can be done. Once Groups are working normally (I am assuming we have teething problems) free flowing and active I see only positivity come the future expansions.

As for the negativity it has been with us since Beta, slowly creeping around and gaining focus towards Gamma and now release so that we have sparodic outbursts every now and again on the forums. More of the above should put an end to that...or more realistically shift it's focus. End of the day if they are playing in numbers it can only be good.

Those scores are better than the game deserves. Well, review scores and metacritic should burn in hell anyway. The release was obviously rushed and deserves a lot more flak for it.

On the other hand, ED offers something unique and is WAY more polished and better performing then most games are at release so i say these scores are well deserved.

Reviews and scores are highly individual and means nothing to me though, other then im happy to see ED getting good scores.

Then you are going to be really upset with these then:

Hooked gamers: 9/10
Eurogamer Germany: 9/10
Bit-gamer: 94%

:D

But don't worry...the reviewers will soon start to slaughter the game for it being utter rubbish...any day now...

Soon(tm)

I don't understand this side of the human soul, shouldn't you be happy the game is well received? Why being angry at the fact the others like it?
People are weird

Auto-pilot isn't a bad idea actually. It's just a small step from docking computer. Obviously if you go AFK on a long trip you'll get interdicted and destroyed, so it balances itself. When autopilot was introduced to Eve it didn't destroy the game and it's still somewhat quicker to manually pilot your ship.

With respect to reviews they're meaningless, written by a bunch of shills and lackeys who're paid by the hand they're supposedly critiquing. I don't know why anyone would buy a game because a publication recommended it but apparently lots of people do just that. That is not to say that they're wrong in this case, only that you shouldn't base a purchasing decision on their opinions.
