Reviews of Elite Dangerous on PS4

Update: this is now a general reviews thread.

PlayStation LifeStyle rated ED a 9/10.

Destructoid gave it a 9/10.

The Italian Everyeye.it rated it 8.6/10.

PlayStation Universe gave it a 8.5/10.

It's a pitty IGN lets casual game journalists who don't really understand or appreciate space sims like Elite Dangerous do brief 3 minute video reviews. IGN should make another review for a second opinion with someone who understands and appreciates complex games like ED.

Meanwhile, SciFiPulse gave Elite Dangerous on PS4 a 9.6 out of 10. Awesome. It's a short review though.

Tom Renegade gives it a 9 out of 10. This is a proper video review 8 minutes long.

Update with some international reviews. Use Google Translate to read it:

GameCensor reviewed Elite Dangerous and gave it a 90/100.

Everyeye.it gave it 8.6/10.

Chalgyr's Game Room gave Elite Dangerous a 9.25 out of 10.

Impulse Gamer gave a 4.4/5.

All Things PlayStation gave a 9/10

Warrington Guardian gave a 9/10

Rectify Gaming gave an 8/10.

Didnt they give Football manager a 4 out of 10 one year cos the graphics sucked and was like a whole lot of spreadsheet and not as good as fifa

I think it's a fair review. Remember this review is geared to Playstation gamers. This is not a typical PS 4 game. The score of 7,5 is rather good for what they call a "boring" game. You can't give a game like this a 9 in a playstation review. This is a game that I love but would not recommend it to all my friends with a PS4. I will recommend it to some but not all of them because they will find indeed a boring game.

This is not a typical casual game, that's why people who actually have genuine interest in space-sims should review it. That guy made a 3 minute video which is grossly inadequate and doesn't cover the game. I bet he barely did exploration, cause it takes too long etc.

That's the thing with reviews on games that require a LOT of time to get into.

You have to dedicate to be able to base a solid opinion on it, but if you're just reviewing it, when do you draw the line to stop and call the play-review quits?

It's like any other indepth RPG I play, and I see a someone who played 7hours and reviewed it.

Don't mind ign they will give the next cod a 9 and destiny 2 a 10. Same with GameSpot as both are notorious for giving casual games the highest score instead of the more ambitious games.

But IGN is your typical casual game reviewing website. They know their audience. I never use IGN reviews to decide my purchases on.

IGN is stuck in the early days of Halo and Doom.. Anything more complicated they dont understand.

if there is one site, that is biased, its IGN...

The reviewer came as a "I'm bored, where's the shooting" type of player. The review told me nothing about the game only that it's in space and IMO, Elite is a game that needs an 8 minute review at least because of the size.
@DustyArne That sidey is so adorable and it's pretty much the PS4 community,

Doom does rock tho! :)

I'd never expect this game to review well but we all love it and despite the odd bug/bugs it's the game we all want!

I bet IGN cant look their mother in the eyes and say theyve never gave a favourable review because it was benefical to them in someway if they did. I'm not saying this review isnt fair but alot arent. In general they arent very good at reviewing games, its either biased or misinformed. Its all opinion anyway, A reviewer reviewing a game hes not particularly interested in isnt going to score it highly when he'd rather be playing call or duty or at home watching netflix

Destiny is awesome though, but hey, I love many games from many genres :p

There are enough very positive reviews of ED for PS4 out there to show how off-base the IGN review is by comparison.

I agree with other comments here. These guys cater to the casual gamer types. Many with serious attention deficit issues and entitlement syndromes.

Probably best their core audience steers clear of ED, because Frontier could obviously do without all the refunds. ;)

This is what I have to say to IGN:

I didn't watch this one, but I did watch their review of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and they clearly gave it to the angry, entitled, man-child, professional armchair dev of the group. This person was also unable to separate Andromeda from the epic magnum opus that was Mass Effect 3 in order to review it on its own merits. No Mass Effect game would stand up to that kind of comparison, period.

I almost want to watch it, just to see if it's the same guy, and by others' descriptions so far, it sounds like it.

elite is not a complex game, it just has a steep learning curve because of the lack of meaningful introduction.

of course it's also possible they are addressing an audience with record low attention span, but i didn't watch the reviews anyway. i've been playing this game for almost 3 years, i know quite well what it is and what it is not. what the fig should i watch reviews for?? :D

Laugh?

I used to think IGN at least understood roleplaying games. This ED 3 min review was unfair like they had no sci-fi or genre fans among them, ignorant or no knowledge of the respected Elite franchise, and unable to get openworld roleplay. (Or they were vigged by SC and/or refused to see the 1:1 playable simulation of the galaxy as any achievement.) I bet the reviewer thought the skybox just was another typical space game paint job completely ignorant that it is unique for each system based on the ED galaxy of stars' independent positions and characteristics. I had stopped reading reviews for over a decade. Only this past year have I discovered how pandered the corporate gaming industry is today and how far ign has fallen. Now I just stick to review channels like Mack of WAB.
