Revisiting X3

I'm thinking about revisiting X3, as I had only ever scratched the surface.
Is this game worth paying for again (disc long gone), visuals etc, it's ~$10 on steam?
I only ever had the basic X3 game, and on steam there are DLCs like albian, and terran conflict, are they worth adding?
TIA.

For that money you can't go wrong.

But as you will read about in the other thread for X4, the plan is still to release that this year, which will hopefully be the better game, being a combination of X3 and X:R.

Time will tell.

X3 is the only one of the series I played. I really enjoyed it. Well worth a tenner I'd say.

X3 was the game that put me off the franchise, it seemed to have lost its way. But maybe i didn't give it a big enough chance.

Regardless, i'll wait and see how X4 shapes up.

I actually played it far longer than Elite, I had lots of fun.

Having the Bonus Pack is an absolute must, but it's free anyway.

SPOILER-y :
There's a mission which requires ridiculous amounts of resources ( and Credits. SO MUCH CREDITS ). You might want to invest early in some proper Ore mines and stuff. The later parts of the mission require microchips and to accomplish this mission you NEED quite a few stations (which is what you will need the credits for ). The stations around the Universe can't handle the amount needed. The reward is quite something on the other hand.

Aren't you talking about X-Rebirth ?

I hope A_A is talking about X :R
I had preordered that game, never again.
X4 is a wait and see for me, like civ games, the bug fixes and other patches seem to make the games so much more worth it.

May I suggest you to take a look at GoG too? Currently there X3 Reunion costs less than on Steam, while the Terran War Pack costs around 18 € but includes both Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude (mind you these are not dlc but stand alone games). With the added plus of no DRM.

If you're looking for the definitive sandbox experience, go without a doubt for TC/AP. Reunion may have a somewhat "more compelling" main story (big words to use, story mode has never been Egosoft's strong point, to be gentle), but the two semi-sequels added literally a metric ton of new stuff, ships, sectors, gameplay mechanics...with no official word yet on what X4 may offer, TC/AP are still the sandbox space games to beat for me.

(even though Rebirth as of 4.0, if you're able to get past the single ship thing and the embarassing npc/dialogues, can actually be a pretty neat title)

Its a great game and well worth the 19.99 that gog wants for the terran war pack. I have played most of the way through the story, before going off in my own direction, twice.
X3 tc is better than x3 ap imo. X3 tc was nearly perfect, the only thing it lacked was trackir support.
If you get x3 tc make sure and get the bonus pack.
Sometimes gog has the x3 ap and x3 tc terran war pack on sale for 9.99 USD.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I can't love you anymore.

I still like X:R, despite it's *many* issues. :D

Actually no, it was X3. I know X: was considered the breaking point for many, but for me it was 3.

Maybe it was just the thought of basically doing the same as i did in X, X-tension, X2, all over again. Play the story, amass tons of stuff, and then become super rich but nothing to do with it all.

I went with steam because it runs native on linux.
I've forgotten everything about X3.
It started to come back to me after an hour or so, but the first 10 minutes was me staring at the monitor thinking, "hmmm, do what now? And how?"
Also, I had no idea that the 2 DLCs were completely independent of each other. So started with Terrain conflict.
Goodbye family, friends, and the outside world.

It will probably take some time before you read that, but have fun ! It was nice knowing you [haha]

Spoiler-y advice :
If you hang around in Conflict Zones, simply watch out for the goodies the ships drop. Good money can be made here :)
Particularly "Omicron Lyrae" and the two Sectors to the north.

Also, aim to own around 50-100 Microchip factories and a proper amount of the stations needed to feed them like Silicium mines and stuff.

I still remember the "whoa" moment of my Terran start, in a Sabre (I think it was) orbiting Uran-the 7th planet from the Sun...good times, good memories.
