Rho Cassiopeiae - Reaching the (Almost) Unreachable [Route, Ship Build, and Picture/Story Album]

It's much, much easier if you use a quality exploration ship (AspX, DBX, Anaconda) with engineering. (Not implying the author was not, just saying for other people.)

The Galactic Mapping Project entry for Rho Cas was written/photographed by me. I recall it requiring a few J3 boots, but nothing unreasonable.

Now, if you want a real challenge, try the Blue Snowball Nebula.

brightest and rarest stars in the known galaxy (there are only 15 known yellow hypergiants)

I've used this number myself in writing GMP entries, and it turns out to be true for the real-life galaxy, but not ED. ED has *no* yellow hypergiants. Rho Cas is a yellow supergiant (luminosity class I). In Elite we know of at least 80 other yellow supergiants.

"Hypergiant" is not a well-defined class. It's more an informal term for "really shiny supergiant" so it's not a problem as such for ED not to use the term.

Which is not to say that ED's distribution of very luminous stars models the real galaxy distribution that closely! :)

Indeed. There are a few generally accepted criteria for hypergiants (but as always there are exceptions):

* absolute magnitude brighter than -7
* broad hydrogen-alpha emission lines, which usually indicate high rates of mass loss

First of all many thanks turkwinif for sharing this. Reaching Rho Cassiopeiae was one of the most rewarding experiences I ever had in ED, and solidified my interest in exploration. [yesnod] [up]

EDDiscovery put the time I got there in early February this year.

Since getting to Rho Cassiopeiae I have spent many hours in the galactic map plotting courses to rather remote locations while balancing out jumponium reserves; it's quite a fun and rewarding way to play ED!

Hello Commanders

First of all thanks for your post helping other commander to find a route to Rho Cassiopeae.

I am travelling to Rho but I find that I need jumponium to reach the firsts systems you post on your routes. That's true? Did you need jumponium even before the last jumps?

My DBX jumps about 56yl so I find it a bit extrange. I calculate an alternative route based on my jump starting from Hypheeg AF-Y d1-1 but now I found that I can't plot a route to that 'starting' system.

Maybe you should try and plot a route towards that system but point to another system that it isnt so far away, lets say 300 LY before your targeting system. If that works then try to plot a little further and if it doesnt then try to plot even closer to you. Once you arrive there you can try and plot again. Plotter doesnt always succesfully plot a route even if we have the jump range. That usually happens on places that systems are not so dense.

Thanks, that was the point. Now I am ant 1000yl and I can plot route to the first sistem of the route to Rho Cassiopeae!!!
