Ride queues the most likely thing to cause crash/freezes (console edition)

I think I've established ride queues are the most likely element to cause the recent influx of crashes on console. On several occasions since the update, it has been during the construction of ride queues that I've experienced the freezes/crashes. On my latest park I spent two, trouble-free hours putting in paths and shops, but within minutes of adding my first ride, and starting the queue, I had the crash.
I'm on PS4.

I can for sure experience the same phenomena. You can build whatever you like, but as soon as you start building the first ride queue tile the crashes will start.
For me, these crashes seem to be an immediately drop of fps to zero, because the game does not crash as xbox doesn't even recognize a crash. the game itself stays alive (!) and after a few minutes of doing nothing or other things on the console, the fps are back to normal and you can continue or save. I also recognize a little stuttering just before the freeze as if the fps would crash to zero in a blink of an eye.

That's exactly how it is for me. If I wait the freeze out it will sometimes fix itself, but sometimes on the PS4 it throws up the bluescreen error message and I have to back out to the home screen and reload the game.

Hi folks!

Are you building while time is paused, then unpausing once you've added in the rides and the queues? There's an issue we've found where if you pause the game, sometimes audio events stack up and don't get cleared. These will then try to execute at once when you unpause, causing freezes. If you unpause intermittently, or keep the background simulation/flow of time running, you shouldn't see this issue as often.

Let me know if you have any additional details or if you're pausing the game for long periods of time!

Yes, I pause all the time. When I start a new park the first thing I do is close the entrance, then pause and begin building. Obviously I need to unpause when testing coasters, so yes, I toggle pause all the time.

Anyway, good to see it's being looked into. Let's hope a patch can be released soon. For now I'll just play with the pause off and put up with all the alerts about empty shops etc.

Thanks for reviewing. I will build in unpaused mode from now on as well, even if this is not a proper long-term solution for me for the future as I don't like what the visitors would do unobserved, those little Home-Alone's. 😂😂😂👍

Hi again,

We've released our 1.4.0 patch for Planet Coaster: Console Edition earlier today which includes improvements for these issues. Please let us know if you're seeing improvements when playing.

My Xbox Series X crashes with no discernible reason. It crashed immediately when editing a ride and I tried to move a ride speaker (It was the jungle cruise type ride.
It’s crashed when editing the terrain. It’s crashed moving fireworks, rides, deleting que lines or the game sitting idle when I take my dog out.
The game will stop responding to controls, stay on screen for about 30-45 seconds and then crash to the Xbox Home Screen.
This happens in both “game play paused” and regular passage of time. The two crashes that stood out to me were the two where I tried to move the ride’s speaker. Both were immediate. The first happened, that was about 15 minutes of play time. When I reloaded the game I went back to the speaker and tried to move it (raise it upwards a bit) but the moment I clicked the speaker, the game froze and this was about 60 seconds of game play. I avoided the speaker and was able to play for about 30 minutes, saving after every change I made.

I hope this helps in some way. I really enjoy the game and would love to get back playing the game as intended.Wishing your staff a safe and MUCH better 2021.

I have noticed the last couple of days when Building a coaster and trying to smooth the ride my game will lock some of the controls on my controller I will be able to zoom in and out and rotate but nothing else. I have to exit the park to the main menu and go back in to fix it

I have a bit of an update that so far has allowed me to play the game for over an hour straight now.
I had many crashes this morning, so I started to keep my camera lower to the ground and not pull back too far, and I’ve managers to not have a crash yet. This is on the Xbox Series X. I’ve been able to save many times and it’s not crashed either. It’s hardly a fix, but if you stay low, you should be able to play for a while anyway. Just don’t forget to save a lot so you don’t loose hard work! Hope this helps you enjoy the game and not get so angry with it like I have been.

Thank you for providing these additional details! As I mentioned in another thread, the team is working on investigating all performance issues, so any details that can help us build a reproduction case is very helpful. :)

Hello Again,
I’ve been playing Planet Coaster on my Xbox One X today (4-January-2020) and wanted to share a couple of things.
I experienced a number of crashes today, and they happened at any conceivable instance (building, saving, traversing the park and so on) Since I am isolating I’m just trying to play the game and if it crashes, I’ll just start over, buuuuutttt I finally just shut it down for a while. I started playing a park I am building from the ground up, and I’m 45 minutes into playing and I’ve had zero issues. No crashing or freezing at any point. The park that was crashing every 10-15 minutes had a build percentage of 85%, normal time change and open to the public but I did turn off the music in the park and on rides in hopes that would help, but it didn’t. and The park I am working on now is at 7% with no customers no music in the park or on rides and I have not hired any staff (wasn’t gonna open before construction was complete) I am just sitting here letting the game run as I type this and it’s going fine, the other park would crash even if I touched nothing and it sat while I was taking a call or something.
I know I’ve offered a few different issues I’ve run into, that I thought might help, but I’m not a person that has a clue how to code a game, (I’m old...) so I leave the coding and head scratching over the problem to the pros, you guys! I could guess the size of the park plays a role in this, but again I don’t know how this stuff works. I did build a coaster completely underground in the 85% park. I dug out a large section of the park, put the coaster in the ground and then covered it using the “Flatten to Surface” tool, thus leaving the coaster in a huge cavern. There are not many people on the ride and no major line, but the game crashed just as often if not more in the underground coaster. So if it were crowds and que lines possibly contributing to the cause, then shouldn’t my 85% park crash less when I’m working in the cavern? Just a rhetorical question about the crowd and que line theory.
Anyway I wish you folks lots of luck and I hope you find a speedy solution, it’s probably driving you folks as crazy as it is the players. I thank you for your time and the teams hard work at trying to discover the issue.

Hello Once Again,

I started a new park, just to kill time until there was a patch to fix this current issue. Yesterday my new park got to exactly 45% and it’s freezing and quitting back to the Xbox Series X Home Screen. The conditions are as follows:
Deciduous
Day/Night Cycle: Off (Time passes but it does not get dark)
Crowds: None
Current Rides: 9 (6 coasters 2 track 1 drop ride)
Walkways: One Very Small Area
Park Status: Closed
Employees: Only Ride Attendants, No Vendors.

Playing on Xbox Series X

I absolutely love this game. However I can’t get a park past 45% without it crashing back to the Xbox Series X Home Screen. The game has been out since what? November? It’s January 21, 2021 and I’m still having the same problem. It was fine until the last update. Now I can get spark to 45% and then start another, but it also seriously hampers career mode. I’m just requesting some kind of update on the progress of a fix for this game. I hate to give up on it, but how much longer are we expected to wait? Any news is SOMETHING, the repeated “we are looking into it” or “leave a trouble ticket” gets me nowhere. Please, just some news, any news.

Hey everyone,

We rolled out a patch yesterday to address these issues. Please make sure your game is updated to the latest version and let us know if your crash issues still persist.
