Rift Delivered Today! Optimizing Tips and Quick Question

Hey guys,

My rift was delivered today and I am still optimizing it. Its running pretty well as my graphics card is not top end, this is expected. Although i would not mind having some more tips that are not easily found around here for tweaking and optimizing. I did try supersampling but it increases the Judder, most likely to do my build.

Build:

MSI mobo, 16GB DDR4, SSD, standard HD (game is here), GTX 760 with 4gb ram

Anyhow my real question is regarding the position tracking. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong, however I recall someone mentioning something about shutting down a specific process otherwise you cannot actually lean in the game. This is exactly whats happening to me, i can look around just fine, even 180 degrees. However leaning has no affect what so ever

I also have a youtube link to demonstrate what i mean by leaning;

Thank you in advance for any tips regarding optimization and the leaning issue!

Positional tracking has worked fine in Elite for several versions now and you no longer have to disable the Oculus service.

If positional tracking is not working for you, first confirm it works in the Oculus Demo (Oculus Configuration Utility - Show Demo Scene), you should also have a blue light on the positional camera. If it doesn't work or there is no blue light you may need to provide additional power to the camera unit using the supplied leads. If you have already tried that then try changing the USB port you've plugged the camera into, maybe try switching between USB and 3 ports if you have them.

If it works in the Demo Scene but not in Elite, i'm not sure what the problem could be, maybe try searching on the forum here for some leads.

As to optimization, i'd suggest setting Shadows to low or off, AA off, AO off, and the rest at medium to start.

In addition its worth checking out the stickied threads at the top of the VR forum and this thread may be of use 'DETAILED DK2 SETUP'

It seems I do not have a blue light on my camera which might imply its not actually running, when i plug the mini usb in the light goes on for a split second then off. The usb is plugged directly into the motherboard. I will try playing around with it tomorrow and see if i can get it working properly.

I have checked that sticky thread out, it was very informative and is what helped me set everything up.

Thanks for the reply, this will probably set me on the correct path to fixing the issue.

Edit:
I messed with the port, and the blue light did go on during the demo leaning was working. I have yet to try it in the game but im thinking this did the trick.
Thanks again!

Get the rift working in the Oculus config tool using extended mode before you even think about trying it in Elite. This will make sure it works ok.
The little blue light only comes on when the rift is doing its stuff...and not an indication of power. I.e you have to be a rift application such as the demo scene in the configure tool.
get the demo scene working first in the config tool and then any issues you have are between ED and the rift.

You are not by chance running Windows 10? One or two of the dev preview builds broke the tracking camera.

or...

did you download the latest runtime (and have you updated the firmware since receiving the DK2?)
